Visiting Research Data Manager Health & Kinesiology University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Job SummaryThe Illinois Health Evaluation Collaborative (IHEC) seeks a strategic and detail oriented Visiting Research Data Manager to design, govern, and guide internal data operations in the evaluation team's mission. This internally focused role provides oversight of data systems, standards, and workflows, while also engaging directly in data analysis for the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey (ILYTS), IHEC evaluation projects, and scholarly products. The position is responsible for shaping data management strategy, ensuring high quality, compliant, and secure use of data; governing data processes in alignment with IRB, reporting, and security requirements; and contributing analytically to research questions that inform policy and practice. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to balance hands on research responsibilities with high level design, coordination, and oversight, working collaboratively with internal staff and external partners as appropriate. Duties & Responsibilities Research & Evaluation Data Management (Compliance, DUA Management & IRB Coordination) *Provide strategic oversight and manage internal data management and storage systems, such as REDCap, for project teams. *Design, govern, and maintain secure and compliant data management infrastructure, including REDCap, databases, and secure data storage environments. *Establish and enforce data governance standards, including documentation (data dictionaries, codebooks, workflows), data quality controls, access management, and analytic readiness. *Lead all data compliance activities, including preparation and coordination of IRB submissions, amendments, and continuing reviews, and management of Data Use Agreements (DUAs), Data Management Plans (DMPs), and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). *Serve as the primary data governance and compliance resource, maintaining required documentation, monitoring adherence to security protocols, and coordinating with institutional, legal, and partners. *Partner with IHEC leadership to strategically design data collection systems, dashboards, and analytic pipelines that support research, evaluation, surveillance, and decision making. *Ensure compliance with all institutional, state, federal, and funder reporting requirements, including disclosure control and cell suppression policies. Research and Evaluation Analysis *Provide direct analytical skills to research, evaluation, and surveillance projects, including data cleaning, transformation, analysis, and preparation of analysis ready datasets using R, SPSS, or similar platforms. *Contribute to the interpretation, visualization, and reporting of findings for internal interest holders, funders, and scholarly dissemination. Communication, Training & Internal Capacity Building *Train team members, including students, on data management workflows, data entry, analytic processes and tools, and visualization best practices. *Develop internal onboarding resources and training materials for data processes, such as SOPs. *Offer technical assistance to external partners participating in research, evaluation, and surveillance efforts. *Maintain internal shared documentation systems (e.g., Box). Minimum Qualifications * Master's degree in public health, data science, statistics, or related field * Experience with REDCap, R, and SPSS * Understanding of IRB processes and compliance requirements. Preferred Qualifications* Familiarity with Memorandum of Understanding, Data Use Agreements, Data Management Plans. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite *Analytical thinking and strong problem-solving skills *Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an internal team *Strong communication skills *Proficiency in working with a variety of statistical analysis software *Ability to manage datasets, perform complex analyses, interpret outputs, and apply the appropriate tools to support data-driven decision-making and research objectives Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The salary range for this position is $58,000- $64,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
