We're looking for material difference-makers to join our growing team. Interested? Learn more at www.veeco.com/careers.

OVERVIEW

The demand for advanced optical interconnect technologies continues to accelerate as artificial intelligence infrastructure drives unprecedented growth in high-speed data center connectivity. Veeco's SPECTOR Ion Beam Deposition platform plays a critical role in producing the precision optical coatings required for next-generation photonics and laser technologies that power these systems.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will own the electrical architecture, printed circuit board design, and subsystem integration work that enables Veeco to scale production, improve performance, and bring new capabilities to the SPECTOR product line. You will make technical decisions that directly influence system reliability, manufacturability, and customer success. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant technical leadership responsibility across new product development, customer-driven enhancements, and continuous product improvement initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, development, verification, and release of electrical subsystems that improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of Veeco's SPECTOR ion beam deposition systems.
  • Own multi-layer printed circuit board architecture from concept through production, including stack-up definition, power distribution, controlled-impedance routing, electromagnetic compatibility considerations, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Drive resolution of complex electrical, controls, and integration challenges across motion control, robotics, power electronics, and system interfaces.
  • Define electrical requirements and engineering specifications that align product capabilities with customer and business objectives.
  • Lead subsystem integration, validation, and root-cause investigations, translating test data into actionable design improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams including software, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and field service organizations.
  • Guide electrical design decisions throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring successful transition from development through production deployment and field operation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 8 years of relevant experience, Master's degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience, or PhD and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Eligibility to work in environments supporting advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Deep expertise in multi-layer printed circuit board design including signal integrity, power integrity, controlled-impedance routing, electromagnetic interference mitigation, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Skilled at diagnosing complex electrical issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience integrating electronics with motion control systems, robotics, industrial controllers, power supplies, and vacuum-based process equipment.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear engineering documentation, design reviews, and decision recommendations.
  • Experience collaborating with manufacturing partners and board fabricators to optimize cost, quality, and production readiness.
  • Familiarity with product safety and regulatory frameworks including CE, UL, TUV, and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requirements.
  • Experience developing equipment for semiconductor, photonics, precision optics, or cleanroom manufacturing environments.
