About the Job

This position provides primary care services to college students at UMD Health Services. Key competencies needed include the ability to diagnose and treat common medical conditions impacting this population including mental health conditions. This includes ordering and interpreting lab, x-ray and other diagnostic tests. Proficiency with use and management of electronic medical records is needed. Experience suturing simple lacerations is expected.

This is a 20 hour per week, 9 month appt (onsite): M-F (specific days and hrs TBD)

Location and Work environment:
The practice location is the UMD Health Services facility which is located on the campus of the University of MN Duluth. It is expected that this is an in person practice 20 hours per week 9 months per year.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for accurate, timely patient documentation
* Assure high quality, efficient, economical, convenient medical care for college students at UMD Health Services
* Recommend appropriate policy and procedure changes to address needs of patients, improved patient outcomes and customer service
* Act as a liaison, if needed, with other clinics, units and departments
* Abide by UMD Health Services - Expectations for Professional Behaviors
* Attend all staff meetings, retreats and appropriate in-service presentations
* Actively participate in the process of clinic re-accreditation with AAAHC every 3 years

Medical Care:
(95%) Provide primary medical care services to college students at UMD Health Services.

* Perform health histories and physical examinations
* Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests
* Provide appropriate medical screening exam to determine whether a patient has an emergency medical condition
* Formulate treatment plan and prognoses
* Document patient interactions using an electronic medical record system
* Manage the patients' care and prescribe medications as defined in the written practice agreement. Write prescriptions as needed in accordance with the MN Board of Nursing guidelines.
* Provide appropriate counseling to meet health needs
* See primary health care problems, diagnose and treat common, acute illnesses, as well as mental health issues such as depression and anxiety in coordination with counseling staff.
* Arrange patient referrals to other care facilities as needed
* Give injections as needed
* Obtain lab specimens/perform limited lab work as indicated
* Assist physicians and other staff as needed

Other duties(5%)

* Contribute to Student Wellness on campus through clinic educational and outreach functions.
* Attend clinic/staff functions
* Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* BA/BS degree plus at least six years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least four years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least one year of experience
* Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota

Preferred Qualifications:

* At least 5 years of experience in an outpatient setting with general primary care.
* Certification as an adult, pediatric, gynecological or family nurse practitioner.
* Current unrestricted prescriptive writing authority.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $45,000 - $52,011 Annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 50% Appointment
