GOVERNMENT AGENCY: Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)

POSITION INFORMATION: Full time

LOCATION: Chantilly, VA - Hybrid (4 days onsite / 1 day remote after initial 30 days fully onsite)

POSITION TIMING: Active Secret clearance required; must also be able to obtain and maintain a DEA Public Trust clearance (processing time: 4-6 weeks, must be completed prior to start)

JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a Software Developer to support the DEA in developing and modernizing Web-based applications, including online customer-service capabilities that enable agency components to deliver their services online. The program is actively modernizing its web platform, migrating away from its legacy ColdFusion application toward modern web technologies. The developer will provide support for site concept, interface design, and website architecture, and will help implement interfaces to applications.

After an initial 30-day onboarding period onsite, this role transitions to a hybrid schedule (4 days onsite, 1 day remote).



Responsibilities

* Understand client requirements and how they translate in application features * Collaborate with a team of IT professionals to set specifications for new applications * Design creative prototypes according to specifications * Write high quality source code to program complete applications within deadlines * Perform unit and integration testing before launch * Conduct functional and non-functional testing * Troubleshoot and debug applications * Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features. * Assist in the monitoring and diagnosis of performance problems, including working with the MS Access database and Microsoft SQL Server


Qualifications

REQUIRED:
    Up to 5 years of experience in web application development and maintenance. Recent graduates (within five years of completing a degree) and transitioning or former military members are encouraged to apply, as the program places a premium on current, modern development training.
  • Hands-on experience building web applications with modern frameworks and technologies such as Node.js and Angular
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and SQL, with a solid foundation in modern, full-stack web development
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following is desirable: SQL Server, MS Access, and other relational database systems (e.g., Oracle, Sybase). Exposure to legacy technologies such as Active Server Pages (ASP) and Visual Basic is helpful given the platform's ongoing modernization.
  • Active Secret clearance required
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

DESIRED:

  • Familiarity with ColdFusion is a plus but not required. The program currently maintains a ColdFusion application that is being modernized, and the senior development team will provide on-the-job mentorship in ColdFusion as needed.
  • Former or transitioning military service
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field
  • Experience working in a Federal IT environment
  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g., PowerShell)
  • Experience supporting system hardening and compliance initiatives

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Candidate must be able to function in general office environment.
