What You'll Do

As a Process Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the PSM and risk control effort across the site. You will assist the site with resolving, implementing, and delegating the OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements and mentor site employees to ensure their understanding of the process safety system. Other duties include:

  • Demonstrate and/or lead the commitment to the pursuit of achieving Zero Harm through behavioral based safety. Ensure Safety Audits, Safe Act Observations, Job Safety Analyses, and Take 5's are being completed and all safety rules are being followed.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations.

  • Live and foster the seven Corporate Values.

  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives and ensure participation from all areas of responsibility, including but not limited to 5S, Visual Management, Problem Solving, and Focused Improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations.

  • Oversee the site's Process Safety Management system by providing guidance to individual element leaders at the site. Ensure effective coordination between the various elements (such as review of pertinent MOC's and Incident investigations during PHA's).

  • Oversee the site's Risk Management process, including coordinating entry and update of events in the risk register; facilitating bowtie (or other) analyses for material risks; guiding the site to effective use of baseline versus situational risk designation; and facilitating the critical control management plans and verifications.

  • Mentor site employees to understand and effectively apply Process Safety Management systems

  • Oversee the site's Operations Risk Management (ORM) transformation, including managing goals and targets to bring the site to compliance.

  • Schedule Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies.

  • Assist with updating P&ID's to ensure effective PHA's and LOPA's.

  • Own and audit various existing Process Safety programs such as the site Management of Change (MOC) program

  • Monitor, drive, and document Process Safety corrective actions to closure.

  • Set and track goals and measures for PSM program improvement.

  • Develop and coordinate Process Safety training at the site.

  • Serve as the site contact point for regulatory agencies (such as EPA or OSHA) on activities tied with Process Safety Management and Risk Management.

  • Active member of the site Health & Safety Committee.

What We're Looking For:

  • BS Degree in Engineering or related discipline

  • 3+ years of Process Safety Management and experience in chemical manufacturing.

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA PSM requirements, including process hazard analysis (PHA), HAZOP's, and Management of Change (MOC).

  • Knowledge of basic investigation techniques and root cause analysis.

  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to connect and interact with people at all levels, including managers, engineers, and front-line employees.

  • Knowledge of engineering documents such as P&ID's, PFD's, and specifications

  • Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a team player
