Job Description

The UMKC Berkley Child and Family Development Center, located on the UMKC-Volker campus, has a current opening for a Part-Time Food Service Worker IV. In this position you will provide skilled work in the cooking and preparation of foods from recipes for lunch and snacks at the Berkley Child and Family Development Center. Work is subject to regular checks for adherence to recipes, and compliance to the sanitary standards of The National Association for the Education of Young Children, State Licensing Board for Child Care Centers, and the Child & Adult Care Food Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help the department continually improve and reach its vision.
  • Perform duties related to inventory, supply purchasing, stocking and restocking and other similar tasks.
  • Prepare lunch and snacks in accordance to set guidelines provided by the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe and secure work area. Follow established cleaning procedures and schedules. After thorough training, properly operate designated equipment such as a mixer, stove, oven, sanitizer, and can opener.
  • Ensure the setup, service, preparation, operation and cleanup of the dishwashing/pot and pan washing areas as needed.
  • Provide and ensure that others provide high-quality service to children and families. Assist in meeting the department's customer service objectives
Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:30am-1:00pm

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum experience requirement: completion of eighth grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Two years of experience in the preparation and service of food in an institutional or commercial food service facility.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of food preparation, including knife skills, and equipment, service and sanitation methods are required.
  • ServSafe certification desirable upon hire, or is able to be acquired within approximately six months of hire.
  • Ability to handle and lift heavy kitchen utensils and supplies (e.g., 40 pounds).
Preferred Qualifications

The kitchen is the heart of a home, and that is no different here at Berkley. Successful candidates will need to enjoy working with children, as you will be a critical part of the team, with daily interactions with children and families. A desire to provide high quality customer service is strongly preferred.

Experience working in a preschool or child care environment preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $19.00 an hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
