General Job Description About the Role KEP is hiring a Multi-Family HVAC Service Start-Up Technician to support our multi-family new construction team in Cincinnati, Ohio. This role is responsible for commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and starting up HVAC systems to ensure proper operation, energy efficiency, and quality performance before project turnover. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced construction environment while delivering exceptional service to builders, project teams, property managers, and residents. Responsibilities Start up and commission HVAC systems in multi-family new construction projects Test, inspect, and verify system performance; make adjustments as needed to meet manufacturer specifications and project requirements Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting to ensure proper equipment operation Identify and resolve start-up deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with installation teams Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, and installation plans Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, builders, subcontractors, property managers, and residents as needed Complete accurate startup documentation, reports, punch lists, and quality control records Assist with warranty service, punch-list items, and emergency service calls as required Help train and support junior technicians and apprentices Maintain tools, equipment, testing instruments, and company vehicles in a safe and professional manner Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations Participate in jobsite meetings and quality assurance initiatives as required Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned Minimum Education None Minimum Years of Experience 2-4 Specific Qualifications Requirements Minimum 2 years of HVAC experience; multi-family and new construction experience preferred Experience with HVAC system startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service preferred Knowledge of residential and light commercial HVAC equipment, controls, and refrigeration systems EPA Certification preferred Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical documents, equipment specifications, and wiring diagrams Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and customer service skills Basic computer and mobile device proficiency for documentation and reporting High school diploma or GED required Must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and required safety training Ability and willingness to travel to various job sites throughout the service area Work Environment Multi-family residential construction job sites in various stages of construction Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, snow, and changing seasonal conditions Work performed in occupied and unoccupied buildings, mechanical rooms, utility spaces, attics, crawl spaces, and rooftops Exposure to construction-related noise, dust, debris, and moving equipment Fast-paced, team-oriented environment with changing priorities and deadlines Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more on a regular basis Frequent standing and walking for extended periods throughout the workday Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, and climbing Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and work safely at elevated heights Ability to work in confined spaces, including mechanical closets, attics, crawl spaces, and utility areas Ability to use hand tools, power tools, gauges, meters, and testing equipment for extended periods Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, and arms Ability to visually inspect equipment, read blueprints, identify wiring, and interpret gauges and digital displays Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, humidity, dust, and construction debris Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and fall protection equipment when required Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and travel between multiple job sites as needed License Required Yes Job Locations US-OH-Cincinnati Company Overview IES is a national provider of industrial products and infrastructure services to a variety of end markets, including electrical, mechanical and communications contracting solutions for the commercial, industrial, residential and renewable energy markets.
