PURPOSE:


The Maintenance Supervisor (Mechanical - Fixed Equipment) reports directly to the Maintenance Superintendent and provides the necessary leadership and coordination to accomplish the refinery's maintenance objectives for fixed equipment. This role is responsible for directing, supervising, and assigning work to maintenance craft personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of fixed equipment including piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, and associated refinery assets.


This role requires technical and field experience related to the inspection, maintenance, repair, and reliability of fixed equipment. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the ability to work hands-on with stakeholders including Maintenance, Operations, Reliability, Inspection, Engineering, and Management personnel. The successful candidate will also be able to evaluate and prioritize maintenance activities, provide field leadership during equipment outages and failures, and drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability, maintenance execution, and workforce performance.


KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Champions maintenance efforts for fixed equipment and demonstrates Calumet Values.
  • Works safely each day and holds team accountable to Calumet, regulatory, and site procedures.
  • Promotes and enforces refinery safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Ensures maintenance work is executed in compliance with refinery safety standards, permit requirements, Mechanical Integrity programs, and refinery procedures.
  • Conducts field safety observations and reinforces safe work behaviors with maintenance personnel.
  • Participates in incident investigations and supports implementation of corrective actions related to maintenance activities.
  • Ensures compliance PMs and Mechanical Integrity related work orders are executed in accordance with regulatory and refinery requirements.
  • Ensures timely and quality execution of maintenance work to minimize downtime and support refinery production targets.
  • Coordinates with Operations, Reliability, Inspection, and Engineering personnel to prioritize and execute maintenance work impacting equipment reliability and availability.
  • Supports Root Cause Analysis investigations and ensures corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  • Provides field leadership during equipment failures, emergent repairs, and unplanned downtime events.
  • Ensures repairs are completed correctly the first time and meet refinery quality standards.
  • Provides feedback to Reliability, Inspection, and Planning personnel on recurring equipment issues and opportunities for reliability improvement.
  • Executes maintenance work efficiently while maintaining quality, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Manages labor and contractor resources effectively to support safe and cost-effective maintenance execution.
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce maintenance costs through improved work practices, maintenance strategies, and equipment improvements.
  • Ensures materials, tools, and resources are utilized appropriately to minimize waste and maximize productivity.
  • Supports maintenance budget planning and cost improvement initiatives.
  • Supervises maintenance crafts performing work on fixed equipment including piping, vessels, exchangers, tanks, heaters, and associated equipment.
  • Coordinates daily work assignments and ensures crews understand work scope, hazards, quality requirements, and performance expectations.
  • Ensures work orders are executed according to approved job plans, procedures, and refinery standards.
  • Verifies completed work meets refinery quality standards and mechanical integrity requirements.
  • Coordinates with Operations to safely release equipment for maintenance and return equipment to service.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and development for maintenance personnel to strengthen workforce capability and performance.
  • Provides feedback to planners regarding job plans, labor estimates, material requirements, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Supports development of turnaround scopes for fixed equipment assets.
  • Coordinates maintenance crews during turnaround planning and execution activities.
  • Provides field leadership for critical equipment repairs during turnarounds and major maintenance events.
  • Ensures turnaround work is executed safely, efficiently, and according to established scope and schedule.
  • Assists with resolving discovery work and emergent repairs during turnaround activities.
  • Requests training and resources to support craft development and continuing education.
  • Works to improve maintenance systems, work processes, and methods utilized to plan and execute site maintenance.
  • Other activities as assigned by the Calumet management team.


REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum of 10 years of experience directly working in refinery, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, or related industrial maintenance environments.
  • Experience supervising fixed equipment maintenance activities within a refinery, chemical plant, or similar industrial facility.
  • Working knowledge of fixed equipment maintenance practices including piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, heaters, and associated equipment.
  • Experience leading maintenance crafts such as pipefitters, welders, boilermakers, and contractors.
  • Experience with maintenance planning, scheduling, work execution, and workforce coordination.
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment issues, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Working knowledge of Mechanical Integrity programs and applicable industry standards including API and ASME codes.
  • Knowledge of maintenance workflows, CMMS systems, and maintenance performance metrics.
  • Proven safety leadership experience regarding refinery operations including but not limited to confined space entry, lockout/tagout, hot work, line breaking, safe work permits, personal protective equipment, and other critical safety procedures.
  • Proficiency with PC Workstation applications and Microsoft Office products. SAP and JD Edwards experience is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible and willing to support off-shift call-in support, turnaround activities, and emergency response situations as needed.
