Summary

Director of Financial Reporting

Advantage Solutions is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting to lead the Company's external financial reporting and technical accounting functions. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, this role owns the preparation and integrity of consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and is a key leader within the controllership organization of a global public company with approximately $3.5 billion in annual sales. The Director leads a team of two accounting professionals and builds scalable, audit-ready reporting processes that keep pace with an active M&A pipeline. This is a high-visibility position with significant interaction with executive leadership, including regular preparation and presentation of reporting deliverables and technical accounting conclusions to the CFO, Audit Committee, and Disclosure Committee. This position is open to candidates commutable to our St. Louis, Chicago, or Irvine offices.

Responsibilities

    Lead preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Company policies, ensuring consolidated results are accurate, timely, and complete
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual external financial reporting, including financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A for investors and lenders, and ensure completion of GAAP disclosure checklists

  • Direct the purchase accounting process in accordance with ASC 805 for all acquisitions and oversee the annual goodwill impairment assessment in accordance with ASC 350

  • Research, document, and implement technical accounting guidance; draft accounting memos and policies; and monitor emerging accounting standards, leading the adoption and implementation of new guidance

  • Provide support for the preparation of investor presentations, Audit Committee reports, and Disclosure Committee materials, and provide required audit support schedules requested by the auditors

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to a team of two accounting professionals (a Manager, Financial Reporting and a Senior Accountant); establish clear expectations and foster a high-performance, accountable culture

  • Develop and manage the external reporting calendar, coordinating deliverables with external auditors, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, and Operations to support strategic initiatives (including M&A and integrations) and maintain a strong internal control environment

Qualifications

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience (Master's degree in Accounting or related field preferred). CPA designation required.

  • Experience Requirements: 10-12 years experience in relevant field (External reporting, technical accounting, or public company experience preferred). Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience required.

  • Travel requirement: Some travel expected, estimated at up to 5-10%. Driving is not an essential duty or function of this job.

Supervisor Responsibility

  • Direct Reports: Leads a team of two direct reports - a Manager, Financial Reporting and a Senior Accountant. Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including technical accounting areas such as business combinations (ASC 805) and goodwill/intangibles (ASC 350)

  • Experience preparing and reviewing external financial statements, footnote disclosures, and MD&A for investors and lenders

  • Strong analytical and technical accounting skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment

  • Excellent verbal, written, people, and diplomacy skills, including the ability to communicate financial results and risks clearly to executive leadership

  • Experience providing leadership to others regarding work-related systems, processes, and challenges

  • Experience interpreting strategy and policy to set and deliver objectives
  • Strong internal control mindset with the ability to build scalable, audit-ready reporting processes

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SEC reporting tools such as DFIN or Workiva, and consolidation systems such as Oracle FCCS

Environmental & Physical Requirements

Office / Sedentary Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically, requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may require the ability to lift up to 10lbs.
