Police Department

Important Notice
This position is funded through a three (3) year grant awarded to the Lexington Police
Department. Employment in this role is contingent upon the availability, renewal, and
continuation of grant funding beyond the initial three-year term.
Summary
The Behavioral Health/Co-Response Clinician will be a full-time, hourly benefited position with
a flexible schedule located within the Lexington Police Department. They will work in the office
and out in the field with the officers on calls to provide on-scene clinical evaluations and
determine appropriate action for services, arrests, diversion from arrests, diversion from
unnecessary emergency department visits, or a combination of criminal justice and behavioral
health treatment involved. The clinician will keep diligent and organized records and tracking
while working with not only the Lexington Police but with the Lexington Human Services,
Council on Aging, Veterans Service Officer, Senior Services Director, Domestic Violence
Services Network, Department of Mental Health, and others.
Essential Elements
* Work within the Lexington Police Department in the office and out in the field.
* Perform training and education for police officers and other Lexington employees and off-site
related training.

* Will work with Lexington Police Officers while going out into the field and offering a clinical
response when it is safe and appropriate, providing immediate on-scene clinical evaluation and
referral services.

* Responsible for follow-up visits and wellness checks on persons treated. Providing face-to-face
and telephonic treatment and follow-up with those served with clinical intervention.

* Will keep diligent and detailed records and notes of all cases and will submit data to DMH and
other agencies as required.

* Communicate and Coordinate with the Lexington Police, Family Services, Council on Aging,
Veterans Agent, Community Resources Coordinator, Department of Mental Health, Domestic
Violence Services Network, Probation Department, and others.

* Other duties as assigned to support the Mental Health and Clinical response needs of the Town
of Lexington.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of crisis intervention and community-based behavioral health services.
* Knowledge of forensic mental health or criminal justice.
* Knowledge of Massachusetts Sections 12 and 35.
* Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Skilled in problem-solving and de-escalation.
* Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to communicate with diverse groups and those in crisis.
* Ability to multi-task and organize effectively to meet deadlines and document work.
* Ability to keep calm under high-stress situations.
* Ability to provide education and training support.
* Ability to work indoors & outdoors in all weather.
* Commitment to community engagement and public service.

Minimum Requirements
* Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field.
* At least one (1) year of experience in a crisis intervention setting or related field.

Preferred Qualifications
* LMHC or LICSW license in Massachusetts.

Location Requirements
* Combination of office-based and field-based work.
* Travel to locations within the Town of Lexington.
* Flexible schedule based on departmental and community needs.
* Use of standard office equipment and municipal vehicles as required.

Work Hours:
The incumbent in this position will coordinate with their supervisor to establish a work schedule
within the Police Department's first and second shift operations. Flexibility is required to attend
events and respond to emergencies that may occur on weekends, holidays, or outside of regularly
scheduled work hours.
