Responsibilities

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7- 17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility.

Qualifications

* Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, which confers RN, AD or diploma in Nursing
* Must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or have a multi-state license
* One year nursing supervisory required (two preferred). Prefer experience with children and adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program.

* Demonstrates knowledge of risk factors for violence and determining potential for violent acting out and ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations.
* Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and programs as necessary, ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on assigned unit for residents ages 05-18. Adheres to Nursing Standards and Policies, Facility Policies and Procedures, the Nurse Practice Act, and maintain patient safety.

Essential Functions:

  • Nurse/Patient Relationship: Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
  • Assuring/Improving Quality Care: Facilitates the patient and family's right to receive safe, quality, and cost effective care. Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and information.
  • Patient/Staff Education: Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients, families, and Staff. Utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient or Staff outcomes. Assists in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues.
  • Nursing Process: Demonstrates the use of nursing process as a problem-solving model. Demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills related to patient's mental health and physical health needs.
  • Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participates as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care. Demonstrates leadership behaviors and is committed to the development of self and others. Leads unit staff by example.
