What to Expect
In this role, you'll own and drive the Central Utilities (CU) portfolio at Gigafactory Texas - serving as the single accountable owner for chilled water, process cooling, compressed air, HVAC, electrical distribution, water/wastewater systems, and sustainable energy programs. You will ensure that utility capacity, reliability, and efficiency keep pace with production ramps and future factory programs. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in technical program management, central utility and critical infrastructure systems, multidisciplinary design leadership, capacity modeling, sustainability and energy management, and cross-functional execution for large-scale manufacturing programs.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the single owner of the GFTX Central Utilities portfolio, accountable for current-state reliability, capacity planning, and long-range infrastructure strategy
- Own end-to-end program execution for CU projects from concept and feasibility through design, construction, commissioning, and turnover to operations
- Manage multiple concurrent CU projects and initiatives, driving scope definition, budget development, schedule management, and risk mitigation while prioritizing based on production impact, capacity constraints, and strategic alignment
- Establish and lead CU governance meetings, providing leadership with clear visibility into utility system health, capacity status, active project progress, and forward-looking risks
- Coordinate across Engineering, Construction, Manufacturing, Facilities, EHS, and external engineering firms, specialty consultants, and equipment vendors to ensure CU programs are fully integrated with broader site infrastructure and production plans
- Collaborate with corporate Tesla EHS leadership to support sustainability and environmental broader energy and environmental commitments
- Manage concise leadership communications including technical risks, program health, key decisions, resource needs, and financial forecasts while maintaining detailed project schedules, risk registers, and action trackers across the CU portfolio
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, or a related technical discipline; PE license, PMP, LEED, CEM, or similar certifications preferred, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience in program management, project management, or engineering leadership with demonstrated delivery of large-scale mechanical/utility infrastructure programs (chilled water plants, compressed air, HVAC, electrical distribution, water/wastewater) in manufacturing, data center, or industrial environments
- Track record of managing multiple concurrent capital projects under aggressive timelines, including budgeting, scheduling, vendor management, and construction oversight
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and utility load calculations, with familiarity in building codes, mechanical/electrical standards, and permitting processes relevant to utility infrastructure
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and establish governance frameworks, reporting cadences, and decision-making structures for infrastructure portfolios
- Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to translate production forecasts and capacity data into infrastructure investment strategies and present complex technical information clearly to leadership audiences
- Experience in automotive manufacturing, battery production, semiconductor, or data center environments preferred; familiarity with scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project), BIM/Revit, and dashboarding platforms preferred
