Responsibilities

GLOTECH, Inc. is seeking Engineering Technicians to join our team. These roles will act as safety professionals responsible for preventing fires and monitoring environmental hazards during hot work and confined space entries on marine vessels. These positions are contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities Include:

    Hot Work Monitoring : Watch the welding, burning, or grinding area continuously to catch stray sparks, slag, or heat build-up.
  • Confined Space Attendant: Maintain a log of all personnel entering and exiting tanks, voids, or other confined spaces.
  • Atmospheric Testing: Use gas detectors to monitor oxygen levels and check for toxic or flammable gases before and during entry.
  • Fire Suppression: Stand by with fully charged fire extinguishers or fire hoses, ready to suppress small fires immediately.
  • Communication Link: Maintain constant communication with the workers inside the tank and the deck safety supervisor via radio or hand signals.
  • Emergency Response: Sound the shipboard alarm and initiate evacuation protocols instantly if a hazard or fire occurs.
  • Post-Work Inspection: Remain at the work site for at least 30 minutes after hot work finishes to ensure no smoldering materials remain.


Qualifications

  • Firewatch certification and Confined Space Entry training are mandatory.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders, maneuver through tight hatches, and stand for long periods.
  • Comfort working in dark, loud, cramped, and extreme temperature environments.
  • Excellent vision and sense of smell to quickly detect smoke, fumes, or chemical leaks.
  • Basic literacy to maintain accurate, real-time sign-in/sign-out logs and hot work permits.
  • Possess the ability to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Willing to travel to various work sites, including OCONUS may be required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in a shipyard, maritime environment, or heavy industrial construction.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA standard items or Coast Guard safety regulations.
  • Active government security clearance.
