Description

At Gensler, we design for people. We leverage our global perspective and local presence to innovate at every scale. We're not just designers. We're tinkerers, craftspeople, visionaries, innovators and thought leaders. Fueled by passion and entrepreneurial spirit, our people bring new ideas to solve challenging problems.

Our depth of expertise spans disciplines-from aviation and transportation to education, hospitality, retail, technology and more. Whether we're refreshing a retailer's brand, planning a new urban district, or designing a super tall building, we strive to make the everyday places people occupy more inspiring, more resilient, and more impactful.

Your Role

As an Architect within Gensler's dynamic Charlotte office, your job is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for Retail, Financial Services, and multi-site implementation projects. You will be successful because you already know how to develop interior design solutions, translate sketches and documents into realized 3D models and construction drawings, and research technical issues when they arise. You have coordinated with consultants such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural engineers on pushing forward design-driven solutions. Your successful track record on architectural interiors projects, and ability to problem solve both individually and part of a team, makes Gensler a perfect place to cultivate your career.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to deliver successful project outcomes as they relate to architectural interiors
  • Develop and contribute to design concepts, space planning, presentations, material selections, and technical documentation
  • Produce and coordinate BIM models, construction drawings, specifications, and finish plans using Revit
  • Support coordination with engineering and specialty consultants, including structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustics, accessibility, building envelope, and life safety disciplines
  • Resolve complex technical and design challenges while maintaining design intent, quality, budget, and schedule requirements
  • Support all project phases, including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, permitting, bidding, and construction administration
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, substitution requests, and correspondence with permitting and regulatory agencies
  • Maintain productive client relationships and be involved in proposals, contracts, and project financial performance
  • Mentor junior staff, foster collaboration across project teams, and contribute to office culture and professional development initiatives
  • Be inspired to participate in industry organizations and the local design community while supporting firm growth initiatives

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school
  • Registered / Licensed Architect required
    • If you are in process of becoming licensed, please feel free to contact Stephanie Contratto at Stephanie_Contratto@gensler.com
  • 5-10 years of related experience, including demonstrated success with interiors projects
  • Highly proficient in Revit
  • Understanding and proficiency in design software programs including SketchUp, InDesign, 3D Studio Max, Enscape, Photoshop, and Illustrator), Rhino, with proficiency in Miro
  • Advanced knowledge of the design process, including FF+E, furniture systems and specifications, color and materials
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, standards and building structures
  • Ability to understand how buildings are constructed and to create technical documents that succinctly describe the work to be done
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle and design process through post-occupancy
  • Flexibility to focus on concurrent projects in various stages of development
  • A quick learner with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent written + verbal communication and client relationship management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Collaborative and team-conscious
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, grace and style
  • Must have the ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships through successful project delivery
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices; Portfolios will ideally include at least one project (especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, and/or Net Zero Building certification) with this particular focus

For consideration, please submit resume and portfolio with relevant work samples.

This role is not remote or hybrid; we look forward to working with our new team member in our Charlotte office.
