Department: Univ Athletics-Softball
Salary/Grade: EXS/32

Target hiring range for this position will be between $100k-118K per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Softball Coach and assists in coaching, recruiting, fund-raising, analysis, and management of the Softball team. This is a full-time benefits eligible appointment that is renewable on a contract basis

*Willingness and ability to work a non-traditional schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays as required. *

Specific Responsibilities:

Coaching

  • Assist the head coach in coaching and training all aspects of the Softball team; with special emphasis placed on developing the pitching staff.
  • Work to develop comprehensive knowledge of softball in decision-making, handling authority and setting and meeting objectives.
  • Develop, direct and supervise the development of the pitching staff. Work to develop game plans and strategy for the pitching staff including fundamental pitch development, in season and out of season training, the mental approach to pitching and in game strategies and decisions.

Administrative

  • Assist with all external and internal communication with Alumni, the Evanston Community and the Softball Booster Club.
  • Supervise the inventory all softball equipment.
  • Be able to effectively manage
  • Break down and edit practice and game film to assist in the teaching of student-athletes.
  • Work closely with Student Development and supervise volunteer work, community service and outreach programs in the Chicago area.

Recruiting

  • Assist in recruiting for the softball program; identify and contact qualified prospective student-athletes; schedule on-campus visits and all itineraries and communicate regularly with coaches of the prospective students.
  • Establish and maintain all files on prospective student-athletes.

Other

  • Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference, CSC and the NCAA.
  • Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.

Miscellaneous

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Playing or coaching experience in the sport of softball at the college level.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact and establish engaging relationships with a wide variety of constituents.

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University preferred
  • Experience with various athletic software systems ( Arms, Teamworks, Hudl, etc.)
