This type of appointment is not approved to work more than 999 hours per year for all positions combined. Should incumbents work more than a total of 999 hours in a year the appointment may not continue beyond one year of service.
Campus Recreation supports the development of the whole person and their sense of belonging through active programs, services, and facilities that promote wellbeing.
The Colgate University Club Sport Program is designed to enhance the student experience while participating in a sport of choice. It is not intended to be a path leading clubs to varsity status under the Colgate Intercollegiate Athletics program.
Accountabilities
This position provides on-site medical care for the upcoming Rugby Preseason (with potential regular-season coverage based on need), coordinates medical care operations for designated club sports, and oversees medical administrative responsibilities for the Recreation Department.
Operating under the direction and professional license of the University Physician, the Athletic Trainer will be responsible for the following:
Clinical Care & Medical Authority

  • Responsible for the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, ensuring strict compliance with standards of clinical care.
  • Holds complete, independent, and unchallengeable decision-making authority regarding all student-athlete participation in any and all sport activities, including practices and competitions.
  • Serves as the primary medical contact for Men's and Women's Club Rugby; coordinates direct communication with university physicians for these programs and refers injured athletes to appropriate medical services (Student Health Services, specialists, etc.).


Administration, Compliance, & Communication

  • Coordinates, administers, and reviews all post-concussion tests and return-to-play protocols with individual students to ensure a safe reentry into their sport.
  • Submits comprehensive injury reports in a timely manner and determines appropriate follow-up care or directives for injured students.
  • Ensures all pertinent and reported student injuries are properly communicated to University medical staff, Student Health Services (SHS), and the Department of Recreation.
  • Serves as a central liaison between coaches, student-athletes, administrators, physicians, and parents; maintains regular communication with the University Physician and administrative sport supervisor regarding injuries, updates, and return-to-play procedures.
  • Provides department-wide guidance on policies and procedures for high-risk sports administration.
  • Partners directly with club sport coaches, student leaders, and safety officers to ensure completion of all necessary paperwork, training, and tests.
  • Manages and maintains the inventory for all medical kits.
