Shift

Option 1:

* Monday through Friday: 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM

* Every other weekend: 4:30 AM - 9:00 AM

* One day off during the week when working the weekend

Description:

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.


Position Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, specimen processing, maintenance recording, and decontamination procedures
  • Collect and store specimens according to established protocols and procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures (blood, urine, fecal, etc.) to patients
  • Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles
  • Review and fully understand physician orders before specimen collection
  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately
  • Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and prepare specimens as required by test orders
  • Verify all test requisitions and computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens appropriately for transport
  • Store specimens at required temperatures and ensure proper handling to maintain specimen integrity
  • Follow protocol-specific procedures for specimen collection and transportation
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend required annual departmental training sessions
  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results as needed to satisfy inquiries
  • Update and maintain accurate patient information records


Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification for the state of employment (required in certain states)
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2-4 years of overall relevant experience preferred
