Job Summary
The Director of Family Governance and Development Services is a senior advisory leader within Key Family Wealth, responsible for the design, delivery, and evolution of family governance, legacy planning, philanthropic advisory, and family education services for ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients. This role serves as the enterprise subject matter expert on family dynamics and generational wealth strategies, partnering across the Family Wealth platform to help families define purpose, strengthen governance structures, prepare future generations, and navigate complex transitions. The Director also plays a critical role in driving client acquisition, deepening relationships, and enhancing the overall client experience through differentiated advisory solutions.

Essential Functions

  • Lead delivery of family governance, legacy planning, philanthropic advisory, and family education services for UHNW clients ($25MM+).
  • Facilitate guided discovery to help families define vision, values, and long-term wealth objectives.
  • Design and implement governance structures, including family meetings, councils, and decision-making frameworks.
  • Advise on complex family dynamics, including conflict resolution and multi-generational engagement.
  • Partner with Business Advisory Services on family business transition planning, succession, and governance risk mitigation.
  • Identify and address governance gaps such as unclear roles, lack of succession planning, and competing financial priorities.
  • Develop customized philanthropic strategies aligned to family values and long-term impact goals.
  • Collaborate with Fiduciary Advisors and Family Office Directors to deliver integrated wealth and advisory solutions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and facilitator for family meetings and ongoing governance initiatives.
  • Drive new client acquisition and expand existing relationships through differentiated advisory capabilities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with third-party partners and centers of influence to support business growth.
  • Act as a national subject matter expert on family governance, philanthropy, and family dynamics.
  • Educate and coach advisors on governance and philanthropic capabilities to strengthen client delivery.
  • Lead program development, including vendor management and continuous enhancement of service offerings.
  • Stay current on industry trends and competitive offerings to enhance value proposition and client experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice
  • Complies with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including without limitation, acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key's clients and Key.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
  • Master's Degree or professional designation (e.g., JD, CPA, CFA, CFP) (preferred)
  • OR equivalent experience (required)

Work Experience

  • 10 years of experience advising ultra-high-net-worth families and/or family offices (required)

  • Deep expertise in family governance, family dynamics, legacy planning, and philanthropic strategy
  • Demonstrated success in business development, including attracting new client relationships and expanding existing engagements

Physical Demands

  • General Office - Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face to face in person or on the phone with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.

Travel

  • Occasional travel to include overnight stay.

Driving Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $128,000.00 - $268,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
