Position Summary
Winston-Salem State University's Research Center of Excellence is a large, grant-funded data collection operation undertaking in-depth research into eviction and other forms of displacement in North Carolina. The Eviction Data Coordinator will lead the collection of a large dataset of eviction filings across all 100 North Carolina counties. This is a time-limited position, offering benefits, and will run through September 2027, with the possibility of a one-year extension.

Responsibilities of the Eviction Data Coordinator include:
Data Collection:

  • Work within the North Carolina eCourts system to review and input data from eviction filings from NC Counties
  • Identify case outcomes in the summary ejectment process in North Carolina
  • Maintain a steady flow of file reviews to grow the dataset
  • Regularly provide reporting to project leads on data collection progress


Data Cleaning

  • Identify missing case files not uploaded into the eCourts system
  • Regularly audit student-collected data to check for quality and completeness
  • Ensure that eviction geolocation data are formatted into GIS-compatible addresses
  • Provide baseline analysis to project leads about collected data to verify accuracy and reliability

Data Tracking

  • Communicate with North Carolina Clerks of Courts to collect missing eviction data
  • Identify and implement best practices to recover missing data
  • Work with students and project leads to identify unreviewed files from the study period found in the eCourts system

Student Research Supervision

  • Review training materials to ensure that students are getting best practice instruction that aligns with the eCourts system for data collection
  • Implement check-ins with students about individual and project-wide data collection progress
  • Communicate with project leads about the quantity and quality of student-collected data
