Job Summary We are hiring a Traveling Fiber Technician with at least 1 year of hands-on fiber optic or structured cabling experience to support data center and telecommunications projects nationwide. This role involves installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic cabling and related infrastructure. Candidates must be comfortable with extensive travel, extended workweeks, and working in indoor and outdoor environments. Job Responsibilities
Install and rough-in fiber optic and structured cabling infrastructure.
Route, dress, secure, label, and manage fiber and copper cabling.
Terminate single-mode and multimode fiber using LC, SC, ST, FC, MPO/MTP, and other applicable connector types.
Perform fiber fusion and mechanical splicing when required.
Perform OTDR and fiber certification testing to validate link performance and identify faults.
Use Fluke DTX/DSX or similar testing equipment to certify cabling installations and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Install fiber trays, ladder racks, cable management systems, power trays, cabinets, racks, patch panels, and related infrastructure.
Perform rack-and-stack installation of equipment.
Build server racks and complete rack elevations according to project specifications.
Support Outside Plant (OSP) installation, including routing fiber into data center facilities.
Complete telecom room and closet buildouts, including racks, backboards, patch panels, grounding, and associated hardware.
Perform copper terminations, including CAT3/CAT5, 110/66 blocks, and patch panels.
Identify and troubleshoot fiber faults, opens, shorts, transposed pairs, and other cabling issues using appropriate test equipment.
Calculate and evaluate fiber loss budgets and acceptable attenuation for single-mode and multimode fiber links.
Read and follow blueprints, drawings, rack elevations, installation specifications, and project documentation.
Receive, organize, stage, and assemble project materials and hardware.
Maintain accurate timesheets, work orders, test results, labeling records, and other required field documentation.
Communicate professionally with supervisors, project teams, customers, and other onsite personnel.
Follow established safety procedures, including PPE requirements, jobsite housekeeping, equipment safety, and OSHA standards.
Job Requirements
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on fiber optic, structured cabling, telecommunications, or data center cabling experience.
Hands-on experience installing and terminating single-mode and multimode fiber.
Experience with LC, SC, ST, FC, MPO/MTP, or similar fiber connector types.
Experience installing, routing, dressing, securing, and labeling structured cabling.
Hyperscale or large-scale data center experience preferred.
Proficiency with OTDR and fiber testing equipment.
Experience using Fluke DTX/DSX or comparable certification and troubleshooting equipment.
Fusion and mechanical fiber splicing experience strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of fiber loss budgets and applicable TIA/EIA cabling standards.
Ability to troubleshoot fiber and copper cabling faults using appropriate meters and test equipment.
Working knowledge of copper termination, including CAT3/CAT5, 110/66 blocks, and patch panels.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, installation drawings, rack elevations, and project specifications.
Ability to accurately complete field documentation, test results, work orders, and timesheets.
Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Ability to use basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, and tool pouch.
Must have appropriate work boots, including steel-toe or composite-toe footwear, and required PPE.
Ability to safely work from ladders and scissor lifts and perform work in confined spaces.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds with appropriate assistance or equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical work for the duration of the shift.
Ability to work in hot outdoor conditions when required.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively for project assignments.

Extensive nationwide travel is required.
Typical travel rotation consists of approximately four weeks onsite followed by a long weekend at home.
Technicians are expected to return to the project site by Monday following scheduled travel home.
Typical shift start time is 7:00 a.m.
Typical work schedule is approximately 50-60 hours per week.
Overtime and extended shifts may be required based on project needs.
Work may be performed in data centers, telecommunications spaces, construction environments, and outdoor areas.
Candidates must be comfortable working in very hot outdoor conditions when required.
