Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Structured Cabling Technician for a national travel role supporting large-scale commercial and data center projects throughout the United States. This position requires extensive travel to project sites and combines hands-on technical expertise in structured cabling and fiber optic installations with team leadership and project coordination responsibilities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with fiber infrastructure, blueprint interpretation, crew leadership, and project coordination while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service. Candidates must be comfortable traveling for extended project assignments and working overtime as required by project demands.

Job Responsibilities




  • Lead and manage installation teams on large-scale commercial and data center projects.



  • Install structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure.



  • Perform cable rough-in, cable management, dressing, and labeling.



  • Terminate copper and fiber optic cabling.



  • Perform ribbon and fusion fiber splicing.



  • Operate fiber splicing equipment.



  • Install and configure single-mode and multi-mode fiber and various connector types, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC.



  • Perform Fluke and OTDR testing.



  • Troubleshoot fiber optic systems and infrastructure.



  • Rack, stack, and install customer equipment and server cabinets.



  • Build server racks and complete rack elevations.



  • Install ladder racks, fiber trays, power trays, cabinets, and cable management systems.



  • Receive materials and assemble installation hardware.



  • Perform Outside Plant (OSP) fiber installations into data centers.



  • Inspect installations and perform quality control on completed work.



  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentation.



  • Coordinate with general contractors, customers, and project stakeholders.



  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings and ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards.



  • Forecast labor requirements and coordinate staffing needs.



  • Order project materials and maintain inventory.



  • Identify blueprint revisions and submit change orders to project management.



  • Maintain professional verbal and written communication with customers, team members, and management.



  • Maintain clean and organized job sites while following all safety protocols and PPE requirements.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum 5 years of data center technician experience.



  • Minimum 5 years of fiber optic installation experience.



  • Minimum 3 years of telecommunications or related technical field experience.



  • Minimum 6 months of supervisory or management experience.



  • Experience managing installation teams of 5-15 technicians.



  • Demonstrated experience with fiber splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.



  • Proven ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, reporting requirements, and project documentation.



  • Experience with commercial structured cabling and fiber infrastructure installations.



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.



  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Working knowledge of universal communications color codes.



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and MS Project.



  • Ability to safely operate ladders and scissor lifts.



  • Ability to work in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.



  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods.



  • Must possess and effectively use standard telecommunications hand tools, including screwdrivers, tape measure, snips, pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, tool pouch, gloves, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.



  • Must meet company driving standards.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • National travel is required.



  • Travel is expected to be up to 100% initially, with the opportunity to reduce to approximately 75% and eventually 50% based on performance and business needs.



  • Typical project assignments require remaining onsite for 4-6 weeks at a time.



  • Shared lodging is provided during travel assignments with private bedrooms in shared accommodations.



  • Typical work schedule begins at 7:00 AM.



  • Average workweek is 50-60 hours, depending on project demands.



  • Pay Rate: $30.00-$35.00 per hour.
