Job Summary

The Traveling Superintendent leads structured cabling and low voltage projects within enterprise and hyperscale data center environments. This role oversees field teams, project execution, safety, quality, scheduling, and documentation while coordinating with project management, contractors, and customers. The position requires strong data center and structured cabling experience, proven field leadership, and the ability to travel for extended project assignments.

Job Responsibilities




  • Lead daily field operations for structured cabling and low voltage projects in active data center environments.



  • Manage and coordinate technicians, Project Leads, foremen, subcontractors, and other field personnel, including crews of 10 or more employees.



  • Review and interpret project blueprints, installation plans, scope documents, specifications, and related documentation.



  • Oversee structured cabling installations and quality assurance activities in accordance with BICSI and applicable industry standards.



  • Monitor installations involving fiber, copper, cable tray, ladder racks, fiber routing, MDF/IDF buildouts, and related infrastructure.



  • Lead daily stretch-and-flex activities with an emphasis on safety, operational expectations, and labor goals.



  • Conduct regular jobsite walks to evaluate safety, quality, production, efficiency, and installation accuracy.



  • Identify and correct unsafe work practices, improper installations, production concerns, and project constraints.



  • Meet with Project Leads to review daily production, project issues, constraints, safety concerns, and quality concerns.



  • Communicate project status, production performance, risks, constraints, and corrective actions to project management.



  • Track project milestones and schedule deviations to ensure work is completed according to project requirements.



  • Complete weekly pre-planning activities and adjust plans based on production performance, customer requirements, and schedule changes.



  • Maintain accurate daily project documentation, including detailed explanations of production gains or shortfalls.



  • Review and approve employee time entries and verify information against applicable attendance and labor records.



  • Ensure field personnel complete required time entries and project documentation accurately and on schedule.



  • Maintain Estimate to Complete (ETC) information and other required project management documentation.



  • Use Microsoft Suite, Power BI, Bluebeam, and other project management software to support field operations and reporting.



  • Conduct jobsite safety audits and toolbox talks and enforce OSHA requirements and site-specific safety procedures.



  • Address safety incidents promptly and complete required documentation.



  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe working conditions within active data center environments.



  • Mentor field personnel, provide performance feedback, and support technical development.



  • Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, customers, and other project stakeholders.



  • Communicate project progress, risks, constraints, and solutions clearly and professionally.




Job Requirements




  • 7+ years of structured cabling or low voltage installation experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or field leadership capacity.



  • Demonstrated experience leading crews and coordinating work on large-scale data center or mission-critical infrastructure projects.



  • Strong experience with structured cabling systems, including fiber and copper infrastructure.



  • Experience with cable tray, ladder racks, fiber routing, MDF/IDF buildouts, and related physical infrastructure.



  • Strong understanding of data center construction practices and applicable structured cabling standards; knowledge of BICSI standards is highly preferred.



  • OSHA 30 certification required.



  • Lift, fall protection, confined space, and other applicable safety certifications are preferred.



  • Ability to read, interpret, and redline blueprints, as-built drawings, installation plans, and project documentation.



  • Experience with project scheduling, production tracking, labor planning, pre-planning, quality assurance, and project documentation.



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and experience with project management platforms such as Power BI and Bluebeam.



  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.



  • Ability to effectively coordinate with field personnel, project management, contractors, and customers.



  • Ability to work the full project schedule and adapt to changing project demands and customer requirements.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform work involving ladders, lifts, walking, and standing for extended periods.



  • Successful completion of required background screening and drug screening.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • Direct hire position.



  • Typical workday begins at approximately 7:00 a.m.



  • Schedule is generally Monday through Saturday.



  • Approximately 50-60 hours per week may be required depending on project demands.



  • Extensive travel is required.



  • Traveling assignments typically require approximately 4-6 consecutive weeks onsite.



  • Long weekends at home may be provided between extended assignments, generally Friday through Sunday, with return to the project site by Monday.



  • Candidates must be able to maintain the required travel and project schedule for the duration of each assignment.
