Job Description

The Department of Physics & Astronomy faculty and researchers explore some of the universe's biggest questions, from the physics and chemistry of comets to galaxy formation and astrophysics. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Office Support Assistant IV to provide essential administrative support to the department and the chair. In this role, you'll be an important part of helping students, faculty, and researchers succeed by ensuring the department runs smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the department chair, faculty, staff, and visitors, serving as primary point of contact and ensuring efficient day-to-day office operations
  • Coordinate departmental meetings, events, and special activities, including scheduling, logistics, materials preparation, and follow-up activities
  • Support faculty recruitment and onboarding processes by coordinating interviews, candidate visits, and new employee transitions
  • Serve as the department's primary coordinator for building operations, facilities requests, maintenance issues, and space-related concerns
  • Manage departmental calendars, classroom and conference room scheduling, and other shared departmental resources
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and visitor accommodations
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute departmental records, communications, reports, meeting minutes, and review materials while maintaining confidentiality as appropriate
  • Monitor departmental supplies, equipment, mail services, and shared communication channels to support effective office operations
  • Serve as a resource for faculty in their Promotion and Tenure (P&T) submission
Shift

Generally Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Direct customer support experience preferred
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $18.00 - $20.50 per hour

Grade: GGS - 006

Other Information

This is an in-person role located on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. Candidates must be residents to the Sate of Missouri or willing to relocate prior to the hire date.
