The Senior Research & Development Engineer plays a key role in the research, design, development, and commercialization of medical device products and technologies. This role leads or supports crossfunctional projects across the product lifecycle, from early concept and feasibility through verification, validation, and transfer to manufacturing. The position contributes technical expertise to identify and develop innovative materials, processes, and technologies that enhance existing products and enable future growth. The role requires strong collaboration with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to deliver safe, effective, and compliant solutions that meet customer and business needs. Responsibilities
* Lead or support research and development projects, including feasibility, design, prototyping, testing, verification, validation, and implementation. * Identify, evaluate, and develop new technologies, materials, and processes to support new and existing products. * Provide technical input and support to New Product Development, Global Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams. * Develop and maintain technical documentation in compliance with regulatory, design control, and internal development process requirements. * Create and review design specifications, drawings, protocols, reports, and technical justifications. * Plan and execute experimental studies, analyze data, and document results, conclusions, and recommendations. * Conduct risk assessments, feasibility studies, design reviews, and problemsolving activities including root cause analysis. * Support sourcing and evaluation of materials and components, including performance, stability, and manufacturability assessments. * Contribute to intellectual property activities, including patentability and freedomtooperate evaluations, in collaboration with legal and patent counsel. * Support technology transfer and manufacturing process development to enable robust, efficient, and costeffective production. * Apply engineering and scientific principles to develop medical device products and technologies. * Independently manage technical work packages or project elements with minimal supervision. * Collaborate effectively in crossfunctional and global teams. * Communicate technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders, including senior leadership. * Develop, execute, and interpret laboratory and product testing activities. * Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards, quality systems, and design controls. * Demonstrate structured problemsolving, analytical thinking, and sound technical judgment. Education & Work Preferences
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline. * Typically 5+ years of relevant industrial research and development or engineering experience, preferably in regulated industries such as medical devices or pharmaceuticals. * Experience working within design control and quality system environments. * Demonstrated experience in product development, testing, and technical documentation. * Master's degree or PhD in Engineering or a related scientific discipline. * Experience in medical device design, development, or manufacturing. * Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA, MDR). * Experience supporting intellectual property development and patent activities. * Experience leading projects or mentoring earlycareer engineers or students.
