SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager, Benefits, the Senior Benefits Analyst is responsible for the administration, compliance, analysis, and operational support of Brown University Health's financial well-being benefit programs, with primary responsibility for defined contribution retirement plans, including 401(k), 403(b), and 457(b) programs. This role also supports life insurance, student loan assistance, education programs, employee perks, and other financial well-being initiatives as assigned. The Senior Benefits Analyst serves as both a hands-on administrator and analytical partner, ensuring accurate day-to-day program administration while supporting projects, process improvements, system enhancements, compliance activities, and employee education efforts. This role partners closely with Payroll, HRIS, Finance, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and a positive employee experience. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administer Brown University Health's financial well-being benefit programs, with primary responsibility for 401(k), 403(b), and 457(b) retirement plans. Support the administration of life insurance, student loan assistance, education benefits, employee perks, and other assigned programs. Serve as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries, participant transactions, vendor coordination, and issue resolution. Partner with Payroll to ensure accurate deductions, employer contributions, eligibility tracking, and payroll-to-vendor reconciliations. Perform data analysis, audits, and reconciliations to support compliance, data integrity, and operational effectiveness. Support annual compliance activities, including audits, Form 5500 filings, participant notices, and regulatory reporting. Coordinate with vendors, recordkeepers, auditors, and consultants to resolve operational and compliance-related issues. Support projects, system enhancements, testing, vendor implementations, and process improvement initiatives in partnership with the Manager, Benefits. Develop and maintain procedures, documentation, and internal controls. Prepare reports, analyses, and communications to support leadership, compliance, and employee education efforts. Performs other duties as assigned. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years of experience administering employee benefit programs, including significant experience with defined contribution retirement plans (401(k), 403(b), and/or 457(b) plans). Working knowledge of applicable ERISA, IRS, and Department of Labor regulations. Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and analysis of large data sets. Experience partnering with Payroll on retirement plan administration, eligibility tracking, deductions, employer contributions, and reconciliations. Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with the ability to research and resolve complex participant and operational issues. Experience supporting compliance activities, audits, Form 5500 filings, vendor relationships, and participant communications. Experience supporting projects, system enhancements, testing, process improvements, and operational change initiatives. Workday and Office 365 experience preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Normal office environment. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of department policies and practices; generally refers specific problems to supervisor only where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
