As a Radiation Therapist, you will play a critical role in delivering radiation treatment. A typical day for a Radiation Therapist may include: * Checking for correct prescription, treatment plan, calculations, simulation/setup information, and signed consent before the initiation of radiation treatment per site / plan. * Accurately positioning patients according to instructions provided in the chart and delivering the prescribed radiation dose and treatment * Correctly documenting treatment data in patients' daily radiation treatment record and keeping charts updated * Reviewing charts daily for changes to prescription, plans, calculations, and blocking * Obtaining weekly portal films and/or images at intervals consistent with departmental policy. * Assuring that all weekly portal films and images are reviewed by the attending radiation oncologist. * Using knowledge of ARIA system to appropriately schedule patient for simulation procedures, treatment setup and delivery, and to facilitate communication between members of oncology team for treatment planning and procedures. * Using knowledge of SCM and Premise to schedule in patients and inform escort services Responsible for patient simulation * Explaining radiation therapy process and simulation procedures to patient and ensuring consent is signed prior to simulation procedure * Obtaining all pertinent patient information such as diagnostic films, labs and pathology reports prior to the simulation * Applying knowledge of patient positioning and correct use of immobilization devices for accurate reproduction of treatment setup. * Applying knowledge of general CT Scanner applications to obtain images for treatment planning. * Accurately marking and tattoos patient to the coordinates of computed isocenter provided by Voxel Q Workstation * Accurately documents patient's treatment position and use of positioning aides, by taking digital photos and writing instructions in chart * Coordinating and organizing work flow between simulation, dosimetry and treatment. * Maintaining CT scanner and workstations. * Performs required daily QA on linear accelerators and CT simulator * Participates in weekly chart rounds * Observes and reports on patients progress during treatment * Assuring adherence to regulatory requirements * Using knowledge of mold room procedures to produce custom patient shielding * Accurately cut, mount, and verify custom blocks * Maintaining mold room work area * Assisting in instruction of student technologists * Assisting in instruction of student technologists * Extending courtesy and consideration to others in all interpersonal relationships, including telephone contact. * Demonstrating the ability to respond to instruction from peers and superiors in order to complete departmental tasks. * Demonstrating the ability to determine the proper time to discuss differences in work strategy. Perform other departmental duties as prescribed by supervisory personnel. * Working overtime when needed. * Assisting in the performance of non-technical tasks with in the department.
