Position Summary

The Phlebotomist will perform blood draws and specimen collection while supporting assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations. The role requires strong attention to detail, proper specimen handling, and adherence to established procedures and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to test requirements.
  • Verify laboratory requisitions, computer labels, and physician orders for accuracy.
  • Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
  • Properly store specimens and maintain required temperatures to preserve specimen integrity.
  • Update patient information and record maintenance and decontamination data.
  • Package specimens for transportation according to established protocols.
  • Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and established laboratory procedures.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results as appropriate.
  • Attend required annual department training.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvement recommendations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Valid state Phlebotomy certification, where required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, processing, and handling.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures accurately.
