Software Quality Assurance Engineer
Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for Software Quality Assurance activities supporting the development of software used within, and to test, Kearfott's guidance, navigation, and control products.
The Software Quality Assurance Engineer will work closely with software engineering, systems engineering, program management, and quality teams to ensure software development activities and work products comply with internal processes, customer requirements, and applicable aerospace and defense standards.
This position will support the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, verification, validation, configuration management, and release activities. The successful candidate will provide independent oversight of software development processes, participate in reviews and audits, identify process or compliance issues, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are completed.
Responsibilities
* Perform Software Quality Assurance activities throughout the software development lifecycle.
* Ensure software development processes and work products comply with approved plans, procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable industry standards.
* Support compliance with DO-178C and other applicable aerospace and defense software development standards.
* Review software lifecycle artifacts, including software plans, requirements, design documentation, source code records, test procedures, test results, traceability data, and configuration management records.
* Participate in software requirements, design, code, test, and milestone reviews.
* Conduct process and product audits to verify adherence to established software development and quality processes.
* Identify, document, track, and communicate software quality issues, nonconformances, and process deviations.
* Work with engineering teams to develop and verify corrective and preventive actions.
* Support software configuration management, change control, problem reporting, and release activities.
* Evaluate requirements-to-test traceability and verify that required software lifecycle data is complete and accurate.
* Support customer, regulatory, and internal audits and reviews.
* Assist with preparation and maintenance of software quality plans, procedures, checklists, and supporting documentation.
* Monitor software quality metrics and provide status and risk information to engineering and program leadership.
* Promote continuous improvement of software development and quality assurance processes.
* Maintain independence and objectivity when assessing software compliance and quality.
Minimum Required Skills/Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
* 4+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, software engineering, software verification, or a related discipline.
* Experience supporting software development in a regulated, safety-critical, or mission-critical environment.
* Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and associated engineering work products.
* Experience performing software process and product audits.
* Ability to review technical software documentation, requirements, test procedures, and verification results.
* Strong analytical skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to effectively collaborate with software engineers, systems engineers, quality personnel, and program leadership.
* Strong engineering writing and documentation skills.
* Ability to work in a laboratory and engineering development environment.
* Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with DO-178B or DO-178C software certification processes.
* Experience with airborne or safety-critical software development and certification.
* Familiarity with standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, or related quality management systems.
* Knowledge of embedded software development using C/C++.
* Familiarity with real-time embedded systems, microcontrollers, and digital signal processors.
* Experience with software requirements management, configuration management, defect tracking, and version control tools.
* Experience with tools such as Jira, Git, Subversion, DOORS, or similar platforms.
* Familiarity with software verification, validation, and test methodologies.
* Experience reviewing requirements traceability and structural coverage data.
* Familiarity with model-based software development tools such as SCADE, Simulink, or MATLAB.
* Experience with aerospace, defense, avionics, guidance, navigation, or control systems.
* Knowledge of inertial navigation concepts is a plus.
* Experience supporting FAA, customer, or regulatory audits and certification reviews is a plus.
All work is to be performed onsite at our Pine Brook, NJ facilities.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $123,000 - $167,000 annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
