Job Description
The Temporary Technical position is responsible for supporting laboratory operations and related departmental activities. This position focuses on laboratory preparation, equipment maintenance, materials testing, safety compliance, and technical support to ensure laboratory activities are conducted efficiently, safely, and effectively. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, maintain, and organize laboratory equipment, materials, and supplies required for laboratory activities
- Set up and dismantle laboratory experiments and testing apparatus before and after scheduled laboratory sessions
- Monitor laboratory activities to ensure compliance with established safety policies, procedures and regulations
- Provide technical assistance related to laboratory equipment, procedures and operations
- Perform routine inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and coordinate procurement of materials as needed
- Ensure laboratories are clean, organized, and operational
- Conduct materials testing procedures in support of instructional, research and service activities
- Collect, record, and maintain accurate testing data and laboratory records
- Prepare reports and documentation related to testing activities and laboratory operations
- Ensure testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated in accordance with applicable standards
- Assist with sample preparation, handling, storage, and disposal in accordance with established procedures
- Maintain compliance with laboratory safety requirements and applicable regulatory standards
- Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory safety documentation and records
- Monitor laboratory conditions and report safety concerns, equipment issues, or operational needs to supervisory personnel
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory materials and waste
- Support departmental intiatives, research activities, and special projects as needed
- Assist faculty and staff with laboratory-related operational needs
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department or supervisor
Working Environment:
- Primarily laboratory based
- Requires regular interation with faculty, staff, and students utilizing laboratory facilities
- May involve lifting and moving laboratory equipment and materials
- Requires standing, walking, and performing laboratory activities for extended periods
- May require the use of personal rpotective equipment (PPE) and adherence to laboratory safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Materials Testing, or a related field
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, materials testing procedures, and laboratory safety practices
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a laboratory environment
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $31.80 hourly Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
