Essential Job Duties
The Farm to Early Care & Education ( ECE) Extension Coordinator will work with county-level Extension staff and community partners to assess community needs and coordinate implementation of Farm to ECE programming in Head Start and other ECE settings. The Coordinator will provide hands-on support for establishing and sustaining ECE gardens and garden education programs; provide virtual and in-person coaching and technical assistance to teachers, administrators, and other partners; coordinate delivery and setup of garden supplies and outdoor learning materials; support garden site preparation, planting, maintenance, and troubleshooting; participate in community and Extension meetings; support development of partner action plans; and assist with project research and evaluation activities, including data collection and site visits. Regular travel to participating counties and community sites is required.

This is a part-time position averaging 10-15 hours per week. Regular travel to participating counties and ECE sites is an essential function of the position. The role includes outdoor, hands-on work related to garden establishment and maintenance and may require work in varying weather conditions, transport of supplies/materials, and assistance with setup or assembly of garden and outdoor learning materials.

Minimum Experience/Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Extension staff, early care and education partners, and community stakeholders
  • Effective written and verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to provide hands-on support for garden establishment and maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of gardening, horticulture, agriculture education, or a related field, including plant care, soils, fertilizers, seasonal planting, pest management, and garden troubleshooting
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to participating counties and community sites
  • Ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions and transport/setup program materials
  • Ability to complete required NC State human-subjects/CITI training and follow research and site protocols

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience translating gardening or agricultural knowledge into educational programming or technical assistance for non-expert audiences
  • Experience working with early care and education, Head Start, Cooperative Extension, community-based programs, or Farm to ECE initiatives
  • Experience providing coaching or technical assistance
  • Experience supporting program implementation, evaluation, or data collection
