Job Summary:

The Account Executive/Associate Consultant interacts with NFP Sports clients on a day-to-day basis while developing and maintaining relationships with both client and carrier representatives. In this role, you will assist in servicing assigned clients under the direct supervision and approval of your Supervisor. This role may require the employee to take on the role of lead consultant and primary point of contact for their assigned clients. Your legal background will be instrumental as you work with Key Contacts-senior business and legal leaders. In this role, you are not serving as an attorney or building a traditional legal practice career.

The Sports & Entertainment practice is a highly specialized area of insurance and brokerage services. The work is very document-intensive, manuscripted and customized, focused on drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing complex insurance-related documents and contracts, centered on advising and servicing sports clients (sports leagues, teams, and organizations, including professional and collegiate sports organizations) within a specialized insurance environment rather than traditional insurance products.

We are seeking strong analytical and communication-focused candidates who can be trained from the ground up. This role is ideal for a new J.D. looking for a corporate career in insurance and brokerage services.

This is a full-time position with the flexibility of a hybrid schedule from our Long Island-Plainview, NY office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Help coordinate disability insurance programs for professional sports leagues related to salary protection for missed games.
  • Gain familiarity with program documents and understand the practical application of various provisions.
  • Assist in drafting/reviewing of policy documentation and underlying agreements, and participate in renewal negotiations.
  • Support maintenance of financial records and calculations related to program performance.
  • Assist in gathering medical documentation from teams and facilitating the medical underwriting process with carrier.
  • Review missed game information for potential claims and coordinate claim submission process between teams and carrier.
  • Build knowledge of the insurance provisions and requirements of Collective Bargaining Agreements for various professional sports leagues.
  • Contribute to the management of other league-wide insurance policies including assessing coverage needs and facilitating medical underwriting. Such policies include coverage for catastrophic events, international tournaments, and training camps.
  • Assist/Support the placement of individual disability policies, including determining coverage needs and coordinating medical underwriting.
  • Maintain familiarity with market offerings.
  • Review policy wording for changes and comparisons between carriers.
  • Coordinate with other coverage offerings within NFP Sports and/or relating to Sports clients.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
  • Needs to be able to work from the Plainview office (presence in office 2 days a week, more when required)
  • Demonstrates excellent written communication skills. Writes clearly and edits for spelling and grammar. Adapts writing style to audience. Presents numeric data clearly. Can read and interpret written information.
  • Excellent verbal skills. Ability to explain contract and insurance requirements, terms and conditions in a succinct and clear manner
  • Self-confident to make sound independent decisions
  • Ability to successfully interact with a diverse group of people and personalities
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must be able to read, analyze and reconcile financial reports
  • Possess technical expertise plus good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle situations in a calm, courteous and professional manner.
  • Strong attention to detail, decision-making skills and problem resolution.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Juris Doctor required
  • Accident &Health Insurance License required within 12 months

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
