The Automation Test Cell & Facility Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of automation, controls, and testing systems in PACCAR'S Engine Test Laboratory (ETL) that support powertrain, engine, and aftertreatment development programs. This role supplies and enhances testing tools, test cell infrastructure, automation systems to validate new hardware and software technologies. The engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to improve test quality, increase automation and standardize testing procedures at ETL. Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement automation and control systems for engine test cells and facility operations
- Support PACCAR engineering organizations by supplying, improving, and maintaining testing tools used for calibrating, evaluating, and validating hardware and software systems used in test cells
- Support calibration, evaluation, and validation activities through continuous improvement of testing tools
- Support facility upgrades and new test cell development initiatives
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve test quality, automation, safety, and operational efficiency
- Research and implement new automation, instrumentation, and testing technologies
Required Qualifications & Skills
- B.S. in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Mechanical), Computer Science, or related discipline
- Minimum 7 years work experience in automation and control systems for engine test lab facilities
- Proficiency using AVL test cell automation systems and Siemens facility hardware
- Basic knowledge of diesel engine and exhaust aftertreatment system operation and control systems
- Ability to work with all ETL staff, fostering teamwork and employee development
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Automotive, or related engineering degree
- Test cell experience performing heavy-duty on-highway engine development
- Experience performing engine or exhaust aftertreatment calibration
- Proficiency using AVL test cell automation systems and data analysis (PUMA and CONCERTO)
- Experience using engine control software such as ATI Vision, CALTERM, dSpace
