Astrion is seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Senior Chemist to support the LASSO II contract. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical aerospace operations at the Kennedy Space Center. The selected candidate will assist the Senior Chemist in the management of 1st and 2nd shift laboratory operations, subject matter consultations, customer coordination, and ensuring the highest standards in safety and quality compliance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. Advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry desired.
  • Six or more years of experience in laboratory operations, at least two of which have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong working knowledge of gas chromatography, infrared, ultraviolet and atomic absorption spectrophotometry and other analytical instruments.
  • Strong working knowledge of liquids (i.e., solvents, hypergolic fuels and oxidizers, hydraulic oil, lubricants and aviation fuels).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Ability to use computers and printers used for Work instructions, viewing drawings & specifications, producing reports, time keeping and schedules.
  • Experience managing employees with various technical backgrounds.
  • Experience using a variety of equipment used in analytical testing laboratories. Including common hand tools, measurement instruments, torque wrenches, etc.
  • Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.
  • Position may require overtime including weekend work depending on task.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Shift work may be required
  • Candidates must be able to pass the following Kennedy Space Center-provided physicals:
    • Fuel Handler
    • Visual: Micro-Particle Counter
    • Respirator Certification

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Senior Chemist in supervising 1st and/or 2nd shift qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses by the chemical laboratory staff of various materials associated with the operation of the process facility.
  • Assignment of Chemists, Technicians and clerical staff to ensure efficient utilization of resources as delegated by the Senior Chemist.
  • Assist in the planning of analytical procedures for use in complex analysis situations by adapting standard company procedures or devising local procedures where necessary.
  • Review laboratory methods and procedures to ascertain their accuracy and validity.
  • Prepare laboratory reports, test plans, and analytical procedures as required by operations.
  • Provide support to the Senior Chemist in special chemical investigations requested by NASA, Contractor personnel and company management and review reports.
  • Oversee changes to company chemical analysis manual and approve for issue.
  • Substitute for Senior Chemist during absence as required to maintain laboratory operations.
  • Participate and contribute to safety programs, perform instrument audits and maintain an orderly and safe laboratory environment.
  • Ensure implementation of all compliance standards per the company Business System.
  • Plan budget for any technical and operational equipment.
