The Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for serving as a strategic learning consultant responsible for advancing individual, team, and organizational capability. Through partnership with business leaders and subject matter experts, this role assesses business and performance needs, develops capability-building strategies, and designs solutions that improve performance and support organizational goals. The role contributes to enterprise learning, talent, and capability initiatives that strengthen role readiness, role growth, leadership effectiveness, and long-term organizational success.
As a Senior Instructional Designer, you will:



  • Serve as a learning consultant and strategic business partner by collaborating with business leaders and subject matter experts to diagnose performance and business needs, identify root causes, establish learning strategies, and design learning and non-learning solutions that translate complex business and regulatory requirements into measurable business outcomes.


  • Lead the design and development of learning solutions from analysis through implementation, applying instructional design principles, learning theory, adult learning principles, and evidence-based practices across in-person, virtual, blended, and web-based learning.


  • Design and deliver skill- and capability-based learning experiences that support role readiness, role growth, leadership development, and broader talent development by translating required knowledge, skills, behaviors, judgment, and decision-making into meaningful practice and on-the-job performance.


  • Lead in-person and virtual facilitation efforts that build organizational capability by guiding learners, leaders, and senior leaders through meaningful discussions, experiential activities, and collaborative learning experiences that support performance and business outcomes.


  • Lead learning projects by applying project and program management methodologies such as managing scope, requirements, timelines, dependencies, stakeholders, risks, and deliverables from concept through implementation.


  • Evaluate learning effectiveness by establishing appropriate measures, analyzing learner and performance data, gathering feedback, and using findings to improve learning solutions and demonstrate business impact.


  • Present learning strategies, recommendations, design concepts, project plans, and evaluation findings to business leaders and senior leadership; influence decisions and gain alignment across stakeholders.


  • Apply learning technology strategically to support effective learning experiences, including authoring tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Learning Experience Platforms (LXP), and other digital learning technologies.


  • Advance the practice of Learning & Development by applying current learning science and instructional design practices, contributing to design standards and reusable approaches, and sharing expertise with the broader team.


  • Build and maintain current knowledge of banking operations, products, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements sufficient to design accurate and effective learning solutions.


  • Uphold Nicolet's philosophy and policies by maintaining appropriate controls to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, thereby fulfilling legal responsibilities and enhancing the quality of services provided by Nicolet.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, learning and development, education, organizational development, business, communications, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in learning and development, instructional design, performance consulting, organizational development, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting enterprise, functional, or leadership capability development efforts within a complex organizational environment.
  • Experience influencing and collaborating with leaders, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Banking, financial services, or other highly regulated industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with learning technologies, including LMS/LXP platforms, preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional design, adult learning, learning science, and performance improvement principles.
  • Strong business acumen, systems thinking, and consulting skills with the ability to analyze complex business challenges and recommend effective solutions.
  • Exceptional facilitation, communication, presentation, and stakeholder influence skills, including the ability to engage senior leaders.
  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, priorities, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to evaluate data, measure effectiveness, and translate insights into action.
  • Proficiency with learning technologies, authoring tools, LMS/LXP platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
