Job Objective: Plan and teach music lessons for music program participants consistent with Salvation Army program guidelines and Chad Smith Foundation (CSF) expectations.

Essential Functions:

  • Assembles semester-long curriculum syllabus according to selected instrument or vocal.
  • Coordinates recitals and performances for students of advanced classes and Jam sessions.
  • Conducts music lessons for beginner/ intermediate levels (35-minute sessions), and advanced level and Jam sessions (50-minute sessions) on assigned scheduled days.
  • Conducts lessons for age groups of 9 to 12 and 13 to 18 years old with cohorts of up to 5 members at a time. Start times will be established with the supervisor and CSF contact.
  • Completes all CSF required lesson reporting and intake forms, including tracking attendance, student engagement, and other program impact metrics
  • Communicates the philosophy, objectives, standards, and programs of the Salvation Army, through all methods available to students, their parents, and the public.
  • Communicates the philosophy, objectives, standards, and programs of the partnering organization, Chad Smith Foundation, through all methods available to students, their parents, and the public.
  • Develops and maintains positive climate and environment with program space.
  • Maintains a safe, neat, and organized workspace.
  • Maintains equipment and resources. Conducts basic maintenance of music equipment and notifies site and CSF managers of repairs needed for programming.
  • Encourages emotional, social, and educational growth of program participants.
  • Must participate in required training courses by the Salvation Army, County, State, and/or funders.



Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.




  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Instructor is responsible for their own personal instrument(s).



Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree or professional certification in music preferred.

Experience: At least one year of experience as a performing/practicing musician.
