Job Summary


The Buyer independently manages purchasing activities for assigned materials, commodities, suppliers, and services to support production and business requirements. Conducts sourcing, supplier evaluation, negotiations, and purchasing analysis to optimize cost, quality, delivery, and inventory performance. Works cross-functionally to resolve supply issues, mitigate risk, and support continuous improvement within the Supply Chain organization.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities



  • Independently manages purchase orders and material requirements for assigned suppliers, commodities, or product categories.
  • Reviews production requirements, inventory levels, lead times, and demand to ensure material availability and support appropriate inventory levels.
  • Conducts sourcing activities, including RFQs, supplier evaluations, bid comparisons, and supplier recommendations based on cost, quality, delivery, capability, and business requirements.
  • Negotiates pricing, lead times, delivery terms, minimum order quantities, and other commercial terms within assigned authority.
  • Monitors supplier performance and works with suppliers to resolve delivery, quality, cost, capacity, and service issues.
  • Identifies potential material shortages and supply disruptions and coordinates recovery or mitigation actions with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Investigates and resolves purchasing, inventory, invoice, receiving, and supplier-related discrepancies.
  • Partners with Production Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to support production requirements, new products, engineering changes, and business priorities.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings, inventory optimization, lead-time reduction, and supplier performance improvement.
  • Maintains accurate purchasing data, supplier information, pricing, lead times, and documentation within the ERP system.
  • Supports supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives within the Supply Chain organization.
  • Ensures purchasing activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, ethical business practices, and ISO requirements.
  • Actively supports and complies with Pelican's objectives, guidelines and commitment to Safety, Environment and Quality
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Skills and Qualifications




  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or related experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing suppliers, purchase orders, material requirements, and sourcing activities.
  • Working knowledge of supplier negotiations, RFQs, cost analysis, inventory management, and supplier performance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple assignments and resolve purchasing and supply-related issues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).



Physical Requirements and Working Conditions



  • While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee will occasionally be required to perform standard physical activities such as standing, walking, sitting, and using hands and fingers to operate or handle objects.
  • The employee may also be required to perform non-standard physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally in accordance with job requirements.

Compensation & Benefits:
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S. geographic markets. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The annual U.S. pay range for this positionis listed below. Paywithin this range varies by work locationand may also depend on your qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills,and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process. We also offer a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off, 10 paid holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, company-paid life and disability plans, and matching 401k to eligible employees.
