Plan Review Program Coordinator

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking a full-time (40-hour week) Plan Review Program Coordinator for the Environmental Health division. Under the supervision of the Environmental Health Director, the Plan Review Program Coordinator plans, integrates, coordinates, and evaluates the plan review programs and services. Must demonstrate a strong ability to research and analyze programs.

Responsibilities include:

* Coordinates and evaluates the plan review process within the Food Protection Program for the Environmental Health Division for activities and services District-wide that serve identified jurisdictions, residents, and/or the County of Champaign.

* Develops methods to collect, analyze and evaluate the plan review program data and procedures.

* Collaborate with funding agents to provide problem resolution on procedural issues.

* Assures compliance with grants or any other funding sources requirements.

* Researches and analyzes information for special projects and initiatives; prepares and presents verbal and written alternatives, summaries and recommendations.

* Assists in the evaluation and review of plan review program operations for compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations and codes and makes recommendations for revision when necessary.

* Develops, coordinates and presents in-service training and staff development programs.

* Develops, coordinates and provides outreach on the plan review program and processes to potential food service operators, owners, and construction lead.

* Serves as a resource or member representative of the division or District to community groups, agencies, local business groups and the general public.

* Conducts periodic community needs assessments to identify plan review program/s needs and to meet grant documentation requirements.

* Responds to all media requests in a timely manner.

* Public Health Emergency Response Responsibilities: All District employees must be able to respond to public health emergencies when needed and appropriate. During an emergency response, employee may be assigned to a role in either operations, logistics, or administration by the Incident Commander and/or Section Chief in addition to regular duties.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements include:


  • Graduation from an accredited or recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental health or closely related field with a minimum of 30 semester hours of basic sciences (with at least three (3) semesters in each of the following areas: physical sciences, chemical sciences, biological sciences, and math).
  • Five (5) years of work experience in environmental health and food establishment inspections.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a plan review program that could include cottage food, building codes, public safety regulations or public health and safety.
  • Possess an Environmental Health Practitioners License or equivalent license or registration recognized in the field of environmental health.
  • Completion of FDA (FD207) Plan Review Course
  • Completion of FDA (FD312) Special Processes at Retail Course
  • A master's degree from a recognized college or university in a closely related field to the assigned program/s may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience.

All new hires for Plan Review Program Coordinator begin at the established starting salary of $71,428 (40-hour week), with a full salary range of $71,428 - $96,428 for this job classification.
