Position Summary
Organization: Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico Location: 1011 Yale Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87106 An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award MAJOR OBJECTIVE As a Ronald McDonald House Family Room Work-Study Employee, you will manage a respite space for family members that provide direct care to their child on any pediatric floor. RESPONSIBILITIES: Greet families and help sign them into Family Room using iPad. Register new families and provide them with a tour of the facility. Monitor visitors during the usage of the room. Assist families with any questions and/or concerns. Maintain sign up logs for the laundry room. Keep kitchen stocked with food and drinks. Distribute laundry soap and fabric softener to families as needed. Maintain cleanliness and well-being of facility (disinfect, sweep, vacuum, and dust). Notify appropriate contacts when areas need cleaning that you cannot manage. Occasionally work on projects for Ronald McDonald House families, as requested RESTRICTIONS: WS Employee does not: get involved in direct patient treatment or medical procedures transfer patients (i.e. from bed to wheelchair, from stretcher to bed, etc.) work with isolation patients. move occupied beds. provide food or drink to patients without nurse approval. TIME AND PLACE Standard shift schedule will be determined by WS Employee and Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Manager. Service in this position will take place at either the Presbyterian Hospital Ronald McDonald House Family Room or the UNMH Ronald McDonald House Family Room. ORIENTATION/TRAINING The WS Employee works within the guidelines of the Volunteer Services department as outlined in the Hospital Volunteer Handbook and/or hospital volunteer orientation and as such is accountable to the Volunteer Services department at hospital of service. Training will be provided by a current volunteer or staff member of the Family Room. WS Employee must complete orientation provided by the hospital. Vaccinations, testing, and/or proof of vaccinations are required per hospital guidelines. Since the WS Employee will be paid, they will not receive credit for volunteer hours worked, although others completing the same work are doing so on a volunteer basis. COMMITMENT Length of time in this role is determined by the Work Study Supervisor, usually one semester. Once commitment has been fulfilled, extension of the position into the following semester and beyond may be applied for by the WS Employee. Weekly hours will be determined based on UNM WS guidelines. If work study stipend runs out before the semester is finished, students will either volunteer for the remainder of the semester or work with the Volunteer Coordinator to find substitutes. ON-THE-JOB-SUPERVISION Direct supervision will be provided by the Ronald McDonald House Program Manager, while scheduling will be done through the Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Manager, in collaboration with the hospital's Volunteer Coordinator. Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a friendly and approachable demeanor. Service oriented. Physical ability to withstand periods of walking, sitting, standing, and bending. Must be able to communicate clearly in English; bilingual skills are helpful but not required. Ability to recognize and maintain the principle of patient confidentiality. Work effectively with others. Possess knowledge of Ronald McDonald House New Mexico programs and policies. Demonstrate the values of Ronald McDonald House New Mexico and the site hospital. Must also apply to and be accepted by the Volunteer Services Department at hospital of service.
