Job Description

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for general repairman work, doing variety of maintenance jobs on all machinery, equipment, and buildings in Grafton.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Receive job assignments from foreman or leader.
  • Repair and maintain all machinery and equipment in Grafton.
  • Install and set up all machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Rebuild hydraulic press pumps, requiring working to extremely close tolerances.
  • Rebuild fluid drive units, gear boxes, hydraulic tracers, and a variety of complex mechanical and hydraulic units.
  • Assist in rebuilding of machinery and equipment, including a scraping, adjusting, and filling to extremely close tolerances.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections as assigned.
  • Coordinate work with other maintenance departments to facilitate repairs.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, including hydraulic diagrams and construction drawings.
  • Use precision instruments and tools such as levels, micrometers, calipers, etc.
  • Design and make parts in emergencies.
  • Draw sketches of parts, make-up tools and other rough sketches to assist in operations
  • Operate saws, sanders, drills, and other simple machines for maintenance purposes.
  • Serve as member of Wyman-Gordon Fire Department.
  • May operate machine tools in emergency situations.
  • Perform any other duties as required by supervisor

KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING:

Requires 4 to 6 years of on-the-job training. Requires good mechanical background and aptitude. Good knowledge of hydraulics. Familiarity with repairing wide variety of machinery and equipment. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, use precision measuring devices, operate variety of machine tools.

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires considerable initiative and judgment in analyzing malfunction of machinery and performing necessary repairs.
  • Works with little supervision, sometimes instructs newer men.
  • Ingenuity required to devise methods of repair on many dissimilar jobs.
  • Frequent use of many first-class skills in using variety of precision measuring devices and hand tools, at times in tight and awkward positions.
  • Some care required to avoid damage to materials, however, the job is not directly connected with the product.
  • Must exercise considerable care in repairing complex machinery to prevent damage where repair cost would be large.
  • Must exercise considerable care in the maintenance of machinery and equipment such as the forging presses and Die Shop machines to prevent costly downtime.
  • Inattention or carelessness in working on equipment or operating overhead crane or Clarktor could cause temporarily disabling injury to others.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS:

  • Frequent physical effort required.
  • Some jobs such as repacking of presses requires heavy work.
  • Climbs ladders and high structures.
  • Frequent lifting.
  • Some lifting in doing variety of repair jobs.
  • Some tools such as impact wrenches are heavy.
  • Works in all parts of plant, including Forge Shop.
  • Frequent exposure to noise, dirt, and dust.
  • Generally, works in normal temperatures but some work on furnaces or overhead doors or buildings.
  • Press works very greasy.
  • Frequent exposure to temporarily disabling injuries when working on presses or climbing on high structures and to cranes.
  • Constant exposure to minor injuries.

US Citizenship or Perm Residency is required due to government military contracts.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $36.23 to $42.33 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. Employees will receive 40 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
