This position is expected to start around January 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, Full - Time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team:

Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot electronics team is looking for an electrical engineer to develop robots' electrical "cardiovascular, sensory, and nervous" systems.

Optimus hardware team joins electrical, mechanical, robotics, sensing, geartrain, electromagnetic, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative, fast-paced development environment. Optimus electronics team designs and deploys circuits that control power conversion across hundreds of devices across all electrical systems of the robot (actuators, motors, sensors, battery, etc.).

As part of the design team, you will be responsible for all aspects of electrical design (schematic, layout, industrialization, bring up, and validation) of Optimus joint controllers, work closely with firmware, motor controls, and mechanical engineers. You will also support industrialization and production activities.

• Own complete start-to-finishdevelopment:requirement definition andspecification, designexecution, simulation, schematic,boardlayout, manufacturingand DFMiteration,boardbringupand integration, and validation of circuitfunctionality
• Collaborate withfirmware,mechanical hardware, robotand motorcontrols,PCB layout, program management, and validation teamson the design ofworld leadingrobotic electrical hardware
• Debug various hardware interactions in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment
• Thoroughly document design requirements, calculations, validation results,etc.
• Rapidly iterate as design requirements and product features mature over time

• Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering,Robotics,Mechatronics, or a related field with a graduate date between May - December 2027
• Experience with communication protocols (CAN, Bluetooth, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
• Experience with power electronics, power supplies, high & low voltage systems
• Circuit board design (Altium preferred)
• Strong understanding of analog & digital circuits (MOSFETs, op-amps, switching regulators, gate drivers, microcontrollers, SPI, I2C, component selection, power dissipation, etc.)
• Proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, etc.)
• Experience shipping high-volume circuit boards
• Basic programming ability (Python preferred)
