The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient centered PRN Patient Care Technician to work at our UICC Heartland Drive Neurology Clinic.Our Neurology Clinic provides consultation services, evaluations, diagnosis, and treatments for adult patients with a broad spectrum of disorders affecting the nervous system. Our general neurologists are committed to providing specialized care with a generalist perspective, ensuring an innovative, effective, and personalized approach, and diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of neurological conditions. Patients with any neurologic problem, uncertain about their neurological condition, experiencing neurological symptoms, or needing a neurological evaluation may receive care in the general neurology outpatient clinic.This role may float to other ambulatory clinics within UI Community Clinics based on clinical need.

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision, assists the members of the nursing team in provision of multiple types of patient care in in-patient and out-patient care areas. Their work requires familiarity with a wide variety of nursing procedures used in delivering patient care.

Duties to include:

* Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.

* Carries out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including but not limited to phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, & Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolated.

* Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as braces, etc.

* Performs special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, an ECG lead/12 lead placement.

* Assists with patient admission, transfers, and discharges.

* Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort.

* Turns, positions, and ambulates patients.

* Transports patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.

* Serves drinking water and nourishments.

* Assists patients with bedpans and urinals and records output.

* Reports pertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in charge.

* Provides for patient comfort measures through social interactions.

* Shares responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of clinic.

* May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurse.

* Cleans areas per designated guidelines andstandards demonstrating

* Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Percent of Time:Hourly (20 hours per month)

Schedule: Variable hours, Monday - Friday between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Standard clinic hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with a one-hour lunch. No weekends, on call time, or holidays required.

Location: Heartland Drive, Coralville (and surround clinics/locations based on clinic needs)

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions.


  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
