The Department of Integrative Humanities and Social Sciences houses six majors with over 500 students in Africana Studies, Arts Studies, International Studies, Self-Design, Science, Technology, and Society, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. IHSS also offers 7 undergraduate minors, 3 undergraduate dual-degree honors programs, and 1 graduate program. IHSS has core faculty and faculty directors who work in partnership with departments from our college and others to deliver the courses in each program. IHSS actively partners with departments and programs on campus and in the Triangle to host events including speakers and conferences in support of the programs several times during the school year. The Department of World Languages and Cultures at NC State provides students with a broad and intimate understanding of the rich and varied cultures of our globe-understanding that is built on solid competence of spoken and written skills in the language(s) you choose.

At the undergraduate level, the Department offers students the opportunity to major in the following programs of study leading to the B.A. degree: Arabic Studies, Asian Language, French, German Studies, and Spanish. Students who are eager to make teaching their career can pursue the B.A. Degree in French or Spanish Education. We also offer minors in the following: Arabic (through Middle Eastern Studies), Chinese, Classics (Greek and Latin), French, German Studies, Hindu/Urdu, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. In addition, we teach classes in Korean, Portuguese, and English as a second language.

At the graduate level, we have an M.A. program in World Languages and Cultures with three separate concentrations: one in French, one in Spanish and one in TESOL. Each of the concentrations incorporates literature, linguistics, and culture courses.

North Carolina State University welcomes applications for an appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in film and/or media studies of the Korean peninsula and/or the diaspora.

The faculty position will have a joint appointment in the Department of World Languages and Cultures ( WLC), therefore the candidate must demonstrate a capacity to teach beginning, intermediate and advanced level of Korean language and culture courses.

The appointment in Integrative Humanities and Social Sciences requires that the candidate have an interdisciplinary orientation, as it will be based in one of the following programs: Arts Studies; International Studies; Science, Technology and Society; or Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

In addition to filmmaking and/or videography production, you would also have a strong fine arts background and/or formal training in photography, illustration, painting, drawing, or installation art. The standard teaching load will be four courses per academic year, with two each in the IHSS and WLC departments. Other responsibilities include research, publication, and service.

Candidates must have successfully defended their Ph.D. by May 2027.

Other duties as assigned by the Department Head.
