Job Brief
Weld aluminum, carbon, and stainless steel, assembling, installing, and fitting together assemblies primarily (but not exclusively) for the fabrication of specialty truck bodies and process plant equipment.
Who We Are Tradestar is a wholly owned manufacturing subsidiary of Dyno Nobel. Tradestar was started in the birthplace of modern water gel explosives. The company was the truck shop where IRECO Chemicals built the first bulk delivery systems for emulsion type commercial explosives. What You'll Do As a hands-on Welder / Fitter, you will build, assemble, and modify specialty truck bodies, equipment, and process plant components used in the commercial explosives industry worldwide. This is a welding and fabrication role where you will work from engineering drawings to measure, cut, fit, align, tack, weld, and assemble metal components. Other duties include:
- You will work with stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel using MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and Dual Shield welding processes.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication specifications to determine dimensions, materials, weld requirements, and assembly details.
- Responsible for completing your own fit-ups, including measuring, cutting, positioning, aligning, and tack welding components before completing final welds.
- Weld stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel using MIG, TIG, and Dual Shield welding processes.
- Fabricate and assemble a variety of equipment and components, including:
- Tanks and boxes
- Hose reels and augers
- Ladders, walkways, and handrails
- Bins, brackets, and day boxes
- Bumpers and other truck components
- Modify truck chassis and frame rails, including drilling, cutting, fitting, and installing components.
- Assemble welded subassemblies and finished products safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Inspect your work to ensure components are properly aligned and finished products meet drawing specifications and quality requirements.
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent; trade or technical school training in welding/fabrication is preferred. Experience with stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel using MIG, TIG, and/or Dual Shield processes. Recent welding / fabrication technical school graduates may be considered. Experience and knowledge of welding stainless-steel. aluminum, and carbon using MIG, TIG, and Dual Shield welding techniques Familiarity with safety equipment including fall restraint/protection, respirator, confined space retrieval system Able to read engineering blueprints, drawings, and designs. Able to interpret, fabricate and assemble assemblies in accordance with technical drawings and designs Able to operate various fabrication equipment including continuous feed welding machine, shear, brake, band saw, cut off saw, forklift, overhead crane, jib crane, grinder, sander, drill and other related fabrication equipment.
