Undergraduate Student Ambassador

The Department of Political Science is seeking an enthusiastic and creative undergraduate student to serve as a Student Ambassador and help strengthen the department's connections with current students, prospective students, alumni, and the broader university community.

The Student Ambassador will support departmental outreach and communications, help promote academic and professional opportunities available to students, contribute to the department's social media presence, and assist with efforts to engage Political Science alumni.

This position is a great opportunity for a student interested in communications, public engagement, public policy, law, government, higher education, or community outreach to gain hands-on professional experience while helping build a stronger and more connected student community.

The Student Ambassador will work with Political Science faculty and staff to support departmental outreach and engagement activities.

Responsibilities may include:

• Creating engaging content for departmental social media channels.
• Helping maintain a consistent and active social media presence for the department.
• Assisting with outreach to current students.
• Supporting recruitment and outreach efforts for prospective students.
• Serving as a student representative of the department.
• Assisting with alumni engagement efforts.
• Helping develop student- and alumni-focused communications.
• Providing general support for special projects related to student engagement, outreach, and departmental visibility.
• Helping promote opportunities and resources for students.

This position requires in-person work in the Department of Political Science to assist and collaborate with staff, faculty, and students. This includes greeting visitors, light phone work, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A student who is:

1. Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at UNM.
2. A strong written and verbal communicator.
3. Able to work in-person in the Political Science Department.

Preferred Qualifications

A student who is:

1. Friendly, professional, dependable, and comfortable interacting with a variety of people.
2. Interested in connecting with current students, prospective students, alumni, faculty, and community partners.
3. Comfortable using social media and interested in creating engaging digital content.
4. Organized and able to manage projects and responsibilities with appropriate guidance.
5. Creative and willing to contribute new ideas for reaching and engaging students.
6. Able to represent the Department of Political Science in a positive and professional manner.

Experience with social media management, Canva or other design tools, photography/video, communications, student organizations, event planning, or community outreach is preferred. Interest in public policy, government, politics, law, public service, or related fields is preferred.
