Senior Research Specialist, Department of Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Senior Research Specialist to support the research functions in Dr. Ibrahim's lab. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be well-organized, and be highly motivated. The candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaborate with others within the laboratory. The Senior Research Specialist will work under the supervision of Mohab Ibrahim, MD, PhD, and Laurent Martin, PhD.

• Develop and perform advanced experiments as related to research project; record results of experiments; tabulate research data and keep a detailed, easy to understand laboratory notebook.

• Relevant duties related to the conduction of experiments:

• Animal care, colony management.
• Surgeries, tissue collection.
• Perfusion, tissue sectioning, IHC, confocal microscopy. Test, verify, and analyze research data.

• Maintain, write, and update IACUC protocols, writing and reviewing safety protocols. institutional animal protocols and experimental standard operating procedures, including encompassing animal handling, animal breeding management, animal surgery, immunochemistry, sample preparation (both humans and rodents, for ELISA and other biochemical approaches).
• Plan, organize and conduct research for use in research projects and independently conduct work complementary to the overall research objective. Trouble-shoot and problem-solve new assays as needed.
• Interpret the experimental results and contribute to deriving, analyzing, and formatting data.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with granting agencies and regulators as required. Review and edit interview protocols to ensure compliance, completeness and consistency.
• Participate in the writing and research for publications and grant application.
• Participate in weekly laboratory meetings, including presenting analyzed data and discussing future downstream experiments.
• Guide the work of others, including research technicians, graduate and medical students. Participate in orientation and training of new lab members.
• Coordinate laboratory and field work, including lab equipment management and supplies, maintaining laboratory records, and inventories in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
• Engage in relevant techniques from the PI and other lab personnel. Perform all research compliance activities. Perform other administrative duties as requested by PI.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge and hands-on experience with animal handling, animal breeding management, and animal surgery.
• Knowledge of immunochemistry, sample preparation (both humans and rodents, for ELISA and other biochemical approaches) procedures.
• Ability to write and review safety and IACUC protocols.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a laboratory, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• Prior experience in image analysis.
