Organization Information

PACCAR Powertrain is the newest business unit within PACCAR, dedicated to delivering advanced powertrain solutions for Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF trucks. This includes the development of sophisticated heavy-duty engine technologies, along with essential support functions such as testing, validation, and aftersales service. POSITION

The Project Lead Engineer serves as the technical leader for a defined project scope and acts as the primary interface between the project organization and the functional engineering organization. The role works closely with the Project Manager for project execution, deliverables, and milestones, and to the Line Manager for technical excellence, resource management, and personnel development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development, validation, and release of assigned subsystems and components, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, quality standards, and program milestones.
  • Develop and execute subsystem and component development plans by coordinating engineering activities across internal teams, suppliers, and external partners to ensure timely delivery of project milestones, technical deliverables, and release documentation.
  • Manage outsourced engineering activities and supplier deliverables, ensuring alignment with scope, quality, cost, and timing objectives.
  • Drive engineering change management processes, ensuring changes are properly evaluated, approved, communicated, and implemented in a controlled manner.
  • Provide technical leadership within project core teams, supporting decision-making, cross-functional alignment, conflict resolution, and execution of approved project plans.
  • Lead risk identification, mitigation planning, and validation strategy development while translating customer, project, and system-level requirements into actionable subsystem requirements and ensuring solutions align with organizational objectives, product roadmaps, and engineering standards.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in automotive, powertrain, embedded systems, or related technical fields.
  • 2+ years of technical leadership, project coordination, or team lead experience.
  • Experience with V-Model development processes, requirements management, and verification and validation of automotive systems, components, or powertrain technologies.
  • Experience with Simulink for model-based design, simulation, and system analysis.
  • Strong technical knowledge of powertrain systems, controls, architectures, and subsystem interactions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%.

PREFERRED

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262 functional safety principles and their application in automotive system development.
  • Experience leading system integration, verification, and validation activities for automotive or powertrain systems.
  • Proficiency with engineering and project management tools such as IBM DOORS Next Generation (DNG), Engineering Workflow Management (EWM), and FRACAS.
