DLZ currently has an opportunity for a Construction Inspection / Construction Observer throughout North-CentralOhio, including the Marion, Bucyrus, Upper Sandusky, and Delaware areas. This position is well-suited for an experienced utility inspector, ODOT construction inspector, or a recent civil engineering graduate seeking hands-on experience in construction inspection and infrastructure projects.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform all phases of field inspection assignments in accordance with project specifications, plans, and applicable standards. -
Interpret construction plans and specifications and communicate design intent to contractors. -
Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project requirements, plans, specifications, and quality standards. -
Document field activities and prepare daily inspection reports using laptops, tablets, and other project software. -
Communicate daily with contractors, project managers, engineers, and office personnel regarding project progress and issues. -
Coordinate effectively with residents, property owners, and stakeholders affected by construction activities. -
Work with project staff to review and document field changes and design revisions. -
Measure and record installed quantities to support progress tracking and contractor payment estimates. -
Maintain assigned vehicles, equipment, and inspection tools in proper working condition. -
Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements and maintain compliance with established safety procedures. -
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification - One of the following is required:
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a related field, plus two (2) years of relevant construction inspection experience; or
- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant construction inspection experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in asphalt, concrete, aggregate, compaction testing, or related construction materials inspection.
- Experience inspecting water main installation, residential water service connections, underground utilities, roadway reconstruction, concrete construction, and asphalt paving.
- ODOT Construction Inspection Prequalification.
- NICET Highway Construction Inspection Level II or higher certification.
- Experience performing ODOT, municipal, or utility construction inspection.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic field reporting software.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
- Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain, excavation areas, and construction zones while complying with all applicable safety requirements.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening is required.
