Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Academic Affairs, led by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, comprises the university's colleges, schools and libraries, along with other academic support and administrative units. The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is composed of departments that function to increase the supply of primary care physicians to serve the state; improve the health and well-being of the region; and train physicians who will meet the healthcare needs of the state. The Internal Medicine Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine division is one of only four North Carolina academic programs offering a three-year fellowship, with broad expertise in outpatient care, medical critical care, interventional pulmonology, thoracoscopy, and other specialized pulmonary procedures.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position is responsible for day-to-day experience within the clinical site. Reporting to the Research Director of Pulmonary & Critical Care, this position assists with administrative and patient care activities required by the research studies. This position will require knowledge of the study protocols assigned. This position will have primary responsibility of up to 5 study protocols and will serve as a backup on other studies. This position will adhere to rules of good clinical practice and human subject protections as designated by ECU institutional review board.
Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Screening for patients from EPIC for 5 clinical trials (25%)
  • Contact patients and other facilities within ECU Health to make appointments (10%)
  • Conduct the procedures, enter data generated to an electronic system, create and complete source documents, review EPIC research billing, update study visits in ONCORE (40%)
  • Obtain signatures, follow up with physicians, make phone calls when necessary, and communicate with the sponsors (25%)

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
