NC Operator - Temp to Hire

Operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and
machining centers (3 Axis) to mill shapes or patterns into the material on aerospace/aircraft parts. Use of NC Multi-Axis machines, NC Lathes/Routers and/or 5 axis Core mills

Job Summary

  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or part as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Set up alignment/positioning and applicable design improvement.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Verifies conformance of finished part to specifications.
  • Operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of part.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or part problems.
  • Work is subject to process and final inspection
  • Reads/follows shop order/planning instructions, maintains material traceability and performs written entries into shop orders, as required by planning and company procedures
  • Records entries into Machine Event Logs, reflecting actions taken during machining operations, or providing information for following shifts
  • Sets up machines, adjusts, verifies part conformity to blueprint/specification and operates machines to perform a series of progressive machining operations to close and exacting tolerances and finish specifications requiring considerable skill and knowledge of machining techniques and methods
  • Capable of independently selecting proper tools for set up and operation of Multi-Axis NC equipment and a variety of manual/automatic machines
  • Sets up all tools, performs related bench work and verifies part conformity using precision measuring equipment as required
  • Set up machines with furnished jigs and fixtures to machine production parts
  • May operate multiple machines
  • Performs SPC (Statistical Process Control) charting as required
  • Assists area leads in process debug, providing potential solutions to common machining problems
  • Provides input to area lead/supervisor regarding processes that are not capable for either quality or production effectiveness
  • Assist in training General Helpers and Trainees
  • Responsible for storing and handling all Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) appropriately to prevent unauthorized access, dissemination, or use of this information or documentation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

*Capable of independently selecting proper tools for set up and operation of Multi-Axis NC equipment and a variety of manual/automatic machines

*Proficient ability to read/understand blue print/specifications

*Able to rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job

*Ability to learn and navigate software programs, run reports, and maintain accurate records

*Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities timely and efficiently

*Must read and understand shop planning.

*Must read and understand internal and customer specifications.

*Knowledge of basic shop mathematics. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Basic trigonometry and algebra helpful.

*Proficient with shop machines, hand tools and measuring equipment.

Required Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 - 10 years of related experience
  • Manufacturing environment preferred

This is a generic job posting for a NC Operator. Depending on the candidate's skills, qualifications and experience, they will be hired into an entry (I) level, intermediate (II) level or expert (III) level job and pay scale.

Base Compensation: USD 20.00 - 34.00 Paid Hourly
