College of Engineering and Computing

Job Description

The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) seeks a director to lead two high-visibility undergraduate initiatives that span the full arc of the engineering student experience: the college's required first-year introductory engineering course and a new interdisciplinary senior design program.

The Director will oversee the first-year introductory engineering course - a one-credit-hour course required for most first-year students in the college, enrolling nearly 1,000 students each fall semester. This includes coordinating instructional staff, ensuring consistent course delivery and assessment, and maintaining the course's role as students' foundational introduction to engineering.

The Director, in close partnership with academic departments across the college, will also build a new interdisciplinary senior design program and will launch and lead an annual senior design student expo that showcases student work and engages industry partners and other external stakeholders. This includes enhancing senior design and capstone activities college-wide through competitions, structured validation processes, business and market insight, and increased visibility for student work.

This position coordinates staff and faculty involvement across departments to ensure the success of these programs and serves as a contact for industry partners and external stakeholders who want to engage in these activities.

  • Introduce competitions, structured validation processes (e.g., design reviews, testing/verification milestones), and business/market insight components to strengthen capstone outcomes
  • Work with departments to coordinate faculty and staff across discipline areas to ensure smooth execution of interdisciplinary design teams

Senior Design Expo & External Engagement
